More About Coach Ngoc
While I am currently in the process of obtaining formal coaching certifications in the U.S., my 8 years of experience as a professional athlete and 2 years of practical coaching experience are my strongest assets. I have deep knowledge of running techniques, injury prevention, pacing strategies, and mental preparation. I am also pursuing certifications with the RRCA (Road Runners Club of America) to further enhance my professional credibility.
I am a former professional runner from Vietnam with 8 years of competitive experience. I competed at the national and provincial level in various track and road events, ranging from 800m to 10km.
My athletic career highlights include:
- Provincial Champion — I won 3 provincial championships in 800m over the course of my career.
- Top finisher at National Competitions — I placed in the top 5km at Báo Người Lao Động, one of the most prestigious running events in Vietnam.
- Multiple medals — I earned 27 medals in various regional and national tournaments.
- Represented my province at the Nationnal Champion league, competing against the best athletes in the country.
- Detail : 3 bronze medals in the 4x800m relay at the National Youth Championships in Vietnam, 5 gold medals in the 800m-1500m races at the Ho Chi Minh City Championships, 10 silver medals at the city championships. 3 first-place finishes in the 5km city-wide amateur race with a time of 16 minutes. Half marathon run with an 800m-1500m training plan in 1 hour and 18 minutes. Participated in the national championships and games at age 17. National Master of Athletics or National Master of Track and Field 4x800m relay in 2025 in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Beyond the medals, I have a deep understanding of what it takes to train consistently, stay healthy, and perform under pressure — lessons that I now bring to every athlete I coach.
My training philosophy is built on three pillars: Proper Form, Efficient Breathing, and Long-Term Progression. Every session I design starts with the end goal in mind—building a sustainable, injury-free runner.
A typical session with me is not about quick fixes or exhausting workouts. It’s a structured process. Here’s how I run a session:
1. Dynamic Warm-Up & Activation (10-15 minutes)
I never start a session without a thorough warm-up. We begin with light jogging, followed by dynamic stretching and activation drills. I focus on waking up the glutes, core, and stabilizer muscles—this is crucial to prepare the body for impact and reduce the risk of injury.
2. Form & Breathing Drills (10-15 minutes)
This is my specialty and the core of every session. I use specific form drills to correct posture, foot strike, arm swing, and cadence. I also guide clients through breathing techniques (diaphragmatic breathing and rhythmic patterns) to help them find their rhythm and run more efficiently with less oxygen debt.
3. Main Workout (30-45 minutes)
Depending on the goal, the main set could be an endurance run, interval training, tempo run, or hill repeats. But unlike many coaches, I prioritize quality over quantity. I prefer minimalistic but effective workouts—I’d rather have an athlete run 5 km with perfect form than 10 km with poor mechanics. Every session is tailored to the athlete’s current fitness level and long-term target.
4. Cool-Down & Recovery (10-15 minutes)
We finish with light jogging and static stretching, followed by a brief debrief. I believe recovery is just as important as the workout itself. I also educate my clients on why we do what we do—so they understand the process, not just follow orders.
My core philosophy:
I don’t coach for short-term results. I coach for the long game. I believe in building volume gradually, listening to the body, and racing only when the foundation is strong enough. I often tell my athletes: “We don’t test what we haven’t built. We accumulate, and when the body is ready, the performance will follow.”
