More About Coach Neil
I have coached new, improving, and experienced runners to reach their goals from shorter distances to marathons including preparation for timed job-related running tests. I am particularly good with new runners who need a patient, balanced approach. I am also an NASM Certified Personal Training to give you additional benefits to your training by advising on exercises that will specifically help you and incorporate into your training plans.
I started running at the age of 36 having previously thought I hated running. Since then I have become very active in the NJ running community. I am currently on the board of the Raritan Valley Road Runners - a 300 member running club in central New Jersey, and I am part of the team that organized the annual Highland Park 5k. I love the half marathon (fastest time 1:30:07) and have competed in 3 marathons with a fastest of 3:22:45.
Online plans will be fully tailored to your schedule and can be adapted regularly to always fit your needs.
Typical in person sessions start with warm up dynamic stretches and form drills followed by runs where I will focus on your form and ensuring the correct level of exertion for the type of run.

I met Coach Neil for an initial in person session and just scheduled a block of online coaching sessions - which includes loading a training plan into Final Surge, a platform that is made for two way communication between runner and coach. Coach Neil observed and participated in my pre-run stretching routine as well as ran with me to assess my current form and stamina level.
Coach Neil took a very positive and concerned approach to help assess my goals to return to running from an injury and ultimately train for a fall marathon. I look forward to working with Coach Neil - he will create a coaching plan to help me meet my running goals while taking into account any other activities that could impact scheduling, including cross training, physical therapy and work / family obligations.

Coach Neil is a great guy - through and through. Not only is he approachable and knowledgeable, he is flexible and works with you every step of the way. I had a few training sessions with him and he also put together a running plan for me. There was noticeable improvement from one session to the next. He's quick to hone in on what your problems may be and has effective solutions. I would definitely recommend him to anyone else looking to improve their run times, conditioning, and/or form.

Coach Neil is outstanding! With his coaching, I was able to run my longest mileage yet and have a motivated mindset to keep going. I've learned and applied proper running techniques and he's helping me build endurance so I can conquer my next goal: my first half marathon! I absolutely would recommend Coach Neil to others.
Maria (CoachUp client)
Coach Neil has been great. At our in-person assessment meeting, he showed me some new stretches, gave me tips on my form and assured me that my goals could be met based on my performance that day. Since that meeting, he has been giving me weekly customized running plans that fit both my experience and schedule. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone looking to meet certain running goals and to improve your overall performance.

Coach Neil was incredibly patient and knowledgable during our session. He took the time to ask the right questions before our session so that during our time together, we could focus more on technique and performance. He made sure to regularly assess my comfort levels during our run and kept me in check with my form and pacing. Coach Neil was professional, courteous and has a lot of valuable experience that I believe I will benefit from. I would highly recommend Coach Neil to anyone!
Darryl (Testimonial)
The coaching and the comradeship of this group was absolutely motivating and helpful. Thanks to Neil, I was able to handily beat my goal in a recent 5K. Now my sights are set on getting closer to where I was when I last ran competitively, 20 years ago.
Erika (Testimonial)
Neil was a really helpful running coach. He paced us well and expanded upon our strengths each session, setting reasonable goals that challenged us enough to see improved performance. I appreciated the feedback we received from our mid-week individual runs as well. The group dynamic also worked nicely to build motivation and support, even though we were all working on our own personal goals of speed and distance.
Anya (Testimonial)
I have seen great results in a short period of time working with Neil. Neil is very responsive and nurturing. He created a plan that was well customized and perfectly tailored to fit my needs. He is experienced and passionate about running and it shows through the energy and enthusiasm he brings to his coaching sessions. His easy going, friendly personality creates a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. And he makes running challenging and fun! If you are interested in exploring a rewarding activity that will change your health for the better, Neil will help get you going on the right path.
Amina (Testimonial)
Neil gives you just the right amount of encouragement and extra nudge when he sees fit. He is gentle and perceptive. His witty sense of humor is a good trait for a coach who loves his sport. He never puts anyone down for not exercising enough of pushing themselves enough, yet knows intuitively how to encourage them.
