More About Coach Mike
Coaching and training athletes has been and always will be a huge passion of mine. I have trained athletes ranging from 6yrs-70yrs old. I have coached youth sports, high school athletes, and collegiate athletes. I am currently a Crossfit level 1 coach at Helotes Crossfit, in which i am certified. I am willing to work with any type of athlete to develop strength and conditioning for their sport(s) of interest. My time and effort will be heavily devoted to any athlete i train/coach as i plan to instill the fight and faith into the athlete where they enjoy and have fun in their sport(s).
Athletic accomplishments include all-district receiver/defensive back in high school for football; All-district point guard/RGV all-star selection point guard; All-district 2nd base/short-stop baseball player; All-state academic nominee; Competitive crossfit athlete 2+ years; Helotes Crossfit Athlete of the Month (June 2014)
In any type of training session, preparation is always the most important aspect to develop the best performance needed to train. Increasing range of motion, working mobility, and creating activation in needed muscle groups will be the first approach before any session begins. Once that portion is complete, the athlete will be taken through a strength cycle which will consist of either power/squat cleans, snatches, jerks, back/front squats, deadlifts, bench press, etc. which will work both fast twitch muscles and slow twitch muscles. After the completion of strength work, the athlete will be put through 1-2 conditioning workouts to increase cardiovascular endurance, strength, speed, accuracy, balance, coordination, agility, and power. Once completed, the next most important part in quality training is recovery. The athlete will perform range of motion stretches and mobility exercises to maintain a strong and healthy body to fully be able to excel at their sport(s).
