More About Coach Michael

I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CSCS) and have a maters degree in coaching education from Ohio University. I have 5+ years of personal training and strength coaching experience. My most recent position as a strength coach was at a sports medicine clinic in Phoenix, AZ where I trained athletes from youth-sport to Division I college levels, as well as adult endurance athletes. We were the primary strength and conditioning training center for the Arizona Rattlers arena football team. I have trained athletes participating in a multitude of sports; from long distance running and swimming to team sports like football, baseball, soccer and volleyball. I have worked one-on-one to develop individualized training programs for my athletes and coached small groups and entire teams in strength and conditioning workouts. I coached the Phoenix Firebirds AAA U16 and 16+ ice hockey teams in their off-ice strength and conditioning training for two years. I like working with young athletes (ages 9-18), and prefer group training sessions. Group sessions foster an environment that challenge the athletes to push themselves both mentally and physically to become stronger, faster, and more explosive.

I have been an athlete my entire life. I grew up in the Midwest, concentrating on soccer and ice hockey. My senior high school teams were regional champions in soccer and state champions in ice hockey. I received my bachelor's in exercise physiology and my masters in coaching education from Ohio University. I have continued to pursue my interest in studying the human body and have worked in rehabilitative medicine at several orthopedic physical therapy clinics.

My training sessions are developed to improve all aspects of athleticism. Speed, strength, agility, and explosiveness are all key components to athletic performance. Typically, only two of these components will be exercised during a one hour session. For example, a session may include agility work through a series of footwork and short sprinting drills followed by upper body and core strength exercises. The specific needs of you or your athlete will be addressed to determine which areas are in need of the most improvement. My experience in rehabilitative medicine has taught me to assess proper body mechanics and how to specifically address muscle imbalances. During a training session the athlete can be certain that he or she will be training in a safe and effective manner to increase their overall level of athleticism and general fitness.
