More About Coach Michael
Hello, my name is Coach Michael Stephens. I am a very passionate football/track coach who is willing to help athletes develop the physical and cognitive skills it takes to successfully compete at a high level each and every gameday experience.
I have experience coaching 13-18 yr. olds in JH and HS levels of football.
Most of my expertise is in working with DBs, LBs, and WRs.
I have experience coaching at 6A and 5A Levels of Texas High School Football at schools such as
Sachse HS, Rockwall-Heath HS, Princeton HS, South Garland HS, and Royse City MS.
Training with me is not limited to just throwing and catching a ball. Students will learn how to effectively drop into coverage, use great footwork and hand placement technique, and have a mind for the game that allows them to react fast based on their understanding of how to play their position.
Currently, players I have coached are playing at the NCAA level including Jared Mayden (Alabama), Donovan Duvernay (Texas), Marcus Hubbard (Louisiana Monroe), Cole Calkins (McPherson).
I would love to have the opportunity to help your athlete reach his highest potential while working with him in a safe, positive environment.
My playing career was at East Texas Baltist University in Marshall, Tx.
I played defensive back (Strong and Free Safety)
When I graduated in 2004, I played on the first Conference championship team in school history and finished as the all time leader in interceptions.
A session will always open with an athlete going through a stretch and agility warmup. The body cannot perform at its peak without being loosened through stretching and a light shock to the muscles. These stretches will be stationary as well as dynamic.
After stretching, there will be footwork drills including but not limited to cone drills and flat ropes. (All of which will be tailored to position played)
After footwork, we will move into position specific drop/coverage/route drills where the student will learn how to use their feet, hands and eyes correctly in each drill.
Afterwards, we will incorporate ball drills and have a practical application of the previous drill to help the student understand how each drill works in a game setting.
We will always finish with a cool down session and review of the days learning.

Donovan Duvernay/University of Texas DB (Sachse High School) (Testimonial)
Coach Stephens was the person who gave me my first chance at playing defensive back in high school. He believed in me from the start and always saw the best in me. Coach Stephens taught me everything I know about playing defensive back and I owe a lot of my success to him. I currently play corner at the University of Texas at Austin and I can promise that I would not be in this position if it wasn't for everything he taught me and the opportunity he gave me. I have been through a lot of coaches and I can still say that Coach Stephens was one of the best coaches I have ever had.
Jared Mayden University of Alabama CB/S (Sachse High School) (Testimonial)
Coach Stephens really taught me a lot of things that I use here at Alabama, so when I came here, I didn't have to learn technique, just the playbook. But my footwork and my technique was good enough to help me stay with the older guys in college. He hardly yelled though, but when I needed to do better, he would help and push me harder.
