More About Coach Michael
I’m Coach Michael Hill, a Massachusetts high school history teacher and football coach with over 15 years of coaching experience. I have served as a head coach at Lexington High School (MIAA Division I), Cambridge Matignon School, and Georgetown High School, and currently coach running backs at St. Mary’s High School in Lynn.
Throughout my career, I’ve helped build successful programs by emphasizing fundamentals, accountability, and player development. Every program I’ve led has reached the playoffs or competed for a league championship by its second season, and I’ve coached numerous athletes who have gone on to play college football.
As a former college football player at Nichols College, I understand what it takes to compete and improve. My coaching philosophy is centered on teaching proper technique, football IQ, confidence, and discipline while helping athletes reach their individual goals.
I work with players of all ages and experience levels, offering position-specific instruction, speed and agility training, offensive and defensive skill development, football fundamentals, and game preparation. Whether you’re just starting out, preparing for varsity football, or working toward playing at the collegiate level, my goal is to help you become a better football player and a more confident competitor.
I look forward to helping you take the next step in your development

Every session is designed around the individual athlete’s goals, age, and experience level, but the foundation is always the same: master the fundamentals first.
A typical session begins with a dynamic warm-up focused on movement, mobility, and footwork. From there, we move into position-specific drills that emphasize proper technique and game-speed execution.
Running Backs focus on stance, first-step explosiveness, footwork, vision, ball security, cutting techniques, pass protection, route running, and finishing runs through contact.
Quarterbacks work on footwork, drop mechanics, throwing fundamentals, pocket movement, accuracy, ball handling, play-action mechanics, and decision-making.
Fullbacks develop blocking technique, lead blocking, pass protection, ball carrying, route running, and the versatility required to contribute in multiple aspects of the offense.
Throughout every workout, I provide constant feedback and make corrections after each drill so athletes understand not only what to improve, but why it matters. My goal is to build confident, fundamentally sound football players who can transfer what they learn directly to game situations.
Sessions conclude with competitive, game-like drills that reinforce the skills practiced throughout the workout. Before the athlete leaves, we review key takeaways and discuss drills they can continue working on between sessions so improvement continues long after the workout ends.

J.W. (Testimonial)
The two years prior to Mike becoming the head coach the program had a 2 and 20 record. Barely any fan base from either school, as well as a lack of parental involvement. Over the past two seasons Mike has a record of 10 and 12. We won a Thanksgiving game that was jam packed with students, parents, and alumni supporters. We now have a very active Friends of Matignon Football parents group. The games are well attended by students from both schools, alum and administration from both schools. I can attest to the time that Mike puts in throughout the year as the weight room is located right beside the AD office. It doesn’t matter if there is 1 athlete, or 25 he runs a weight room that is open to all athletes, male or female, as well as to all sports. It should be noted that he does the same at St. Joe’s. Mike preaches to his players the importance of educational athletics. He now after 2 years, has had several players go on to play at the college level. This is the second straight season that the team has had a player of the year in the Catholic Central League. This season was the first winning season since 1999, and the first playoff season since 1997. Three different players were honored as players of the week in the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald. Mike does an outstanding job promoting his team to all the local and state media.
B.J. (Testimonial)
Working closely with Mike on and off the field, I can assure you that no coach works harder than he does. I have seen Mike do whatever it takes to help kids achieve success on and off the field. He has a tremendous ability to connect with his student athletes and students know that he always has their best interest in mind. While we were working together, I personally saw Mike build relationships with his players by helping them with academics, football based skills, and all around character building. Mike is coach who has the ability to bring the best out of his players. Football practices can be long and strenuous but Mike has the ability to get the most out of his student athletes during that time. On multiple occasions, I have seen Mike boost both individual players and the team’s confidence and provide motivation for all to practice at their best so that during the game, they can achieve success.
