Melvin " Magic Mike" McCullen was born in N.C. I move to NYC at age 5. I began to play basketball at 11 yr old with some of my older cousin. By age 13 I began to play tournament basketball . I was a Original Little Laker in Preteen 305 1st Year my team went undefeated 13 - 0 as I grab 16 point and 4 steal 3 assist in the Championship game. From there I began to play with the Bedford Boys club at the time it was one of the breeding grounds for Pro players like the Kings Brothers{Bernard of the Knicks}, Scurry Brother {Carry of the NETs} and Many of the players who began to make their way in the game in NYC. I then went to school at Eastern District H.S. where I play for the Varsity Basketball team all four years from 1980 - 1984 . During that time I won :
The Manufacture Handover/ Adidas shoot out and free throw shooting multiple Champion.
Scored my personal record high 107 points in a single basketball game.
Average 50 point per contest in the 6 foot and under tournament at Lefrak city
Was coach by the one and only "Hall of fame" Bernard King and Mr. Brown in the Y.E.S. tournament .
Won the Hot Spot shooting contest 3 years in a row.

I started training and became the assist coach for the girls HS team. While still playing on my school's Varsity Team all 4 years. I played 2 years overseas came home started working and coaching and training in my own program. "Prolevel basketball" to this date. I have Coached at 4 different Colleges 2 different HS and have turned every Program around that I was associated with. I held the #1 Assistant job and head recruiter at every school I have worked at .

Coach McCullen is the absolute best. He's encouraging, but doesn't let you get away with anything, he's hilarious and thoughtful. I'm in my 30s and have played basketball in rec leagues for years, but never felt like I was getting better. This feels like one of the best things I've done for myself in my adult life. Coach Melvin was great from the start. He has helped me with fundamentals and mechanics. Recommend for any skill level, as long as you're willing to learn.

Melvin was well worth the effort to time. I’m about 30 with average basketball experience and Melvin did not assume a thing. He figured out what my current level was and what as I looking for.

Not only was I able to go over some fundamental movements and he was able to pick up on things I was doing instantly and correct them. You still have to put in the work but the 4 days after I can 100% see a positive in my shooting percentages and just understanding of things I can do. Looking forward to my next session with Melvin, his reviews speak for themselves.

Note: I watched him coach a few kids after and to know surprise he made it look it easy. That’s a gift within itself.

My son attended his first session last Saturday and was totally amazed and inspired. Per-Covid, he was enrolled in a basketball course for over 2 years, and he told me that after his 2nd session, he thinks he learned more in 2 days than in the 2 years. We were in NYC from Australia for a very short time and only had an opportunity for our 11 year old son who plays Representative basketball to have 1 session with Coach Melvin. It was an absolutely fantastic experience and Melvin certainly took him outside his comfort zone and developed real confidence at a whole new level with shooting in particular. Coach Melvin is the kind of coach you wish you had. Extremely knowledgeable and down to earth guy. Before I met Coach Melvin, I was a little intimidated of the notion of working with a trainer as I've never been exposed to organized basketball (I've only played in a playground/street-ball setting). But as soon as we met up we got straight to work. Coach Melvin is a great motivator and really knows how to get you to grind even though you're past the point of being uncomfortably tired. Coach Melvin is an incredible coach, who develops kids of all ages. For us, he instilled many drills and fundamentals in our game. He improved our ball handling, scoring, defense, conditioning, finishing and especially our shooting. His workouts were incredible and we could see results from the first session. He inspired us to work outside of the workout, and taught us lessons. His workouts are at game speed, innovative and extremely important to our development. From our 10 sessions, our games were
incredibly strengthened and our basketball opportunities expanded. We know that we are definitely coming back for 10 more.

I would most definitely recommend Coach Melvin to anyone. He gets through the kids using their language and give them advice not only of the court but about life in general. He has good vibes. After 2 sessions, my son has shown improvements not only with his techniques but his confidence has increased as well - which is a must on the court.

Never have I had a coach like coach mike he can put you through your limits and beyond and after all that hard work you will find yourself laughing at his jokes one of the funniest guys ever and my skill level I definitely seen progression and with coach mike I know I'll reach my goals give him a try you will not regret it

Coach Melvin is so far equipping me to improve my game. However, I am mindful that working with him once a week is not enough. It is ultimately up to me to continue practicing. Slow and steady wins the race. I cannot wait to show off my improvements when the time comes. I still have a long way to go.
