More About Coach Matthew

- Head Coach of Diamond Club Select 18U - Denver, CO (Fall 2017)
- Head Coach of Diamond Club 17U - Denver, CO (Summer 2019)
- Assistant Coach - Rockies Scout Team (Fall 2019)

- MLB China Affiliated - Tongen International Baseball Academy - (Shenzhen, China) - Head Foreign Coach - Player Development (2018)

- Glenbrook North High School - Northbrook, IL (2011-2016)
I coached freshman, sophomore and varsity - primarily working with infielders and hitters.
In those five years we won three conference championships, and a number of my players have gone on to play collegiate baseball.

Professional References:
Jason Kipnis - Former teammate - 2 time all star second baseman for the Cleveland Indians
Kole Calhoun - Former teammate - big league outfielder for the LA Angels
Rob Scahil - Former teammate / Former Bradley Brave - big league relief pitcher for the Chicago White Sox
Mike Tauchman - Former Teammate / Former Bradley Brave - big league outfielder for the New York Yankees
Dan Brewer - Former teammate / Former Bradley Brave - AAA outfielder in the New York Yankees organization
Jason Leblebjian - Former Teammate / Bradley Brave - AAA infielder for the Toronto Blue Jays

I played three years at division one Bradley University (Missouri Valley Conference). I was a two time all-conference shortstop/second baseman. I played in the prestigious Northwood's summer league my junior year.

My two favorite quotes:

"Baseball is 95% physical, and only 5% mental. However, the 5% mental controls the 95% physical" - Nate Trosky

"Hitting is simple, it's just not that easy" - Kevin Wilson

Hitting:
There is a BIG difference between style and technique. Style is a hitter's stance, where his/her hands are, big or small leg kick, but technique is a certain sequence of movements that NEED to occur in order to create an efficient barrel path and to maximize our potential as hitters. An efficient barrel path is dictated by several things - balance, posture, and sequence.

Once my hitters feel and execute the correct movements, I will teach the hitting approach (strike zone awareness, count awareness, situational hitting, mindset, and 2 strike approach - (50% of MLB plate appearances end with 2 strikes. YOU BETTER HAVE A PLAN & BE COMFORTABLE HITTING WITH 2 STRIKES!!)

Defense:
Infield training will consist of the following:
1. Proper prep step timing
2. Launch position (no different than the launch position of a hitter)
3. Footwork
4. Creating proper angles
5. Reading hops
6. Repeatable arm slot / throwing from different angles
7. Situational defense

My lessons are simple, fun and build tremendous confidence for each of my players.

Client Reviews

Coach Matthew is an excellent baseball trainer, teacher, and motivator. His sessions are very much centered around building strong fundamentals, conditioning, and establishing good technique. My son really enjoyed working with Coach Matthew and is really looking forward to future sessions. I highly recommend Coach Matthew!

Amos says Coach Matt really helped him bat better, throw the ball more accurately, and be a better baseball player. Grandpa Wayne compliments Matt on his patient approach and friendliness towards Amos and his positive feedback during the the sessions--the slowing down philosophy will be incorporated into a variety of his activities in the future.

Taught my 12 year old adjustments to his swing in under 90mins!!! Great coach my son loves him

We’ve had two sessions with Matt. He listened, analyzed and worked to correct the issues we brought to the table in a step by step manner that was easy to understand and produced immediate results.

Matthew has been a great coach for my son. My son really looks forward to his time with Coach Matthew and his hitting and fielding has improved. Coach Matthew gives helpful tips of things to do at home so my son can always work on his skills.

Coach Matt did an amazing job working with my 10 year old. Worked on balance and property batting/swing stances. Great 1 on 1 coaching that Landyn understands and brings home to practice drills. We will be signing up for more to continue his development.

Excellent coach. Matthew worked with my 9 & 12 year olds on infield and outfield in the off season. They both really liked his style which was disciplined but encouraging. Both felt that the skills they learned improved their performance in their next season.

Matt has been so great!

Coach Matthew did a really great job with my son during his first training session. My son really enjoyed him and can't wait to go back. I would recommend Coach Matthew.

Coach Fritz has been one of the best private coaches my son has worked with. He is a relatable coach who teaches in a way that our 15 year old understands. He never talks “at” him. Coach Fritz has an easy manner with our son, gaining his trust, while keeping his coach/player relationship. Our son’s confidence has grown tremendously, along with his knowledge, and technical skills. He makes the workouts fun and interesting. Finding a coach who shows a true interest in helping our son achieve his goals has been such a gift!

Matt is an awesome coach. He is very patient and knowledgeable about the sport. I highly recommend him.

Matt Fritz is a complete coach who will make an immediate positive impact.
I've had the privilege of coaching alongside Coach Fritz for the past four years, including this year when he was my assistant coach. He has a great understanding and feel for the game of baseball. His understanding of the hitting sequence and intricacies of the swing are second to none. His methods and instruction are some of the best and most practical I've seen.
