More About Coach Matt
I am currently an assistant coach at Albright College. I have coached for 1 year for the Reno Bighorns of the NBADL, 3 years at the NCAA Division III level at Mount Saint Mary College and Grinnell College, and 3 years at the high school AAU level with the Kansas Rockets. I have trained every level athlete, from professionals to youth. In the summer of 2016, I trained Rodney McGruder (then of the NBADL's Sioux Falls SkyForce) as he prepared for the NBA Summer League, after which time he earned a multi-year contract and starting role with the Miami Heat.
I played four years at NCAA Division III Grinnell College. At Grinnell, I scored over 950 points. As a freshman, I finished 2nd in the NCAA in 3-point FG% at over 56%, while making over 2.5 per game. I finished my career 5th in Grinnell's all-time 3-point percentage rankings.
My sessions are always tailored to the needs and wants of the client. I happily oblige the client in providing instruction and practice in whichever skills he/she would like to improve. I also make sure to teach during every session, rather than just put the player through reps. I believe clients are being scammed if they are not actually receiving technical instruction. Too often, I believe trainers do not teach, and instead just invent drills that the player could do on their own. With youths, I spend at least half of the session teaching base fundamentals. For example, with a current client, we always spend roughly 20 minutes working on his shooting form, 20 minutes working on pivoting and playing out of a jab series, and 10 minutes on ball-handling skill drills. Most often, I like to focus on shooting technique, ball handling skills, and playing from the catch in off-ball scenarios, as I believe these skills most often need the most work and are applicable to most players.

Coach Matt is a very good coach. He has made this experience for my great grandson rewarding. He offers a well balanced program for any youth or experienced basketball player. Thank you.
Deb (CoachUp client)
Grandson had a very good lesson, worked on his rusty skills to get him ready for 7th grade tryouts! The drills he gave him will help tremendously, hope we can get in a few more sessions.

Coach Matt was very enthusiastic and knowledgable. My seventh grader really liked him and Coach Matt helped his ballhandling and improved his shooting form in the first session!

My son found Coach Matt to be relatable, and easy to work with with. Coach Matt identified areas for improvement, and provided focused drills to improve those areas both in session and as homework. I am glad we signed up !
