More About Coach Marshawn

My focus as a trainer/coach is to help kids THINK basketball. I question every move they make to help them to start thinking about the things they do before they do it. I have learned through experience that this is also one of life's most valuable lessons. In addition to building stronger mental athletes, I focus on effort and energy. There are different levels of skills and talent but one of the greatest neutralizers in sports is effort.

As a coach, I have worked with AAU organizations, School Districts, Boys and Girls Club and Rec Leagues coaching children 5 and up. Recently, I coached at Nyos Charter School in Austin as well as the club basketball team at St. Edwards University. I am also the Executive Director of ATX Outwork, a Select Basketball organization with teams for boys and girls ages 10-18. Our focus as an organization is to help build young athletes by not only teaching them skills to excel in basketball but in life.

I have competed as a collegiate Division II basketball player and I also played for the San Antonio Crusaders professional team. In high school as a senior we won the State Championship. My focus as a player is defense, rebounding, and understanding team concepts and skills. One of my biggest assets when playing is my ability to communicate with my teammates and quickly assess and make adjustments throughout the game.

One of my biggest skills is teaching defense, reading defense, improving foot speed, quickness, and improving overall knowledge of the game. In addition to defense I focus on shooting, ball handling, instincts, and techniques to help you read defenses and your opponent. Looking to work with athletes over the summer to prepare them for the upcoming season. I create detailed workout plans for athletes to work on their game outside of our training sessions as well.

Coach Marshawn was the perfect coach for my 9 year old who is serious about the game of basketball. She was so receptive to what we wanted to improve on while also instilling the fundamentals and technique she believed was required for my son. She is so generous with her time, her words, and her knowledge. My son looked forward to each session with her because she always found the right balance between expectations and encouragement. I would highly recommend Coach Marshawn for anyone interested in improving their game while having a great time!

Great session for my son! Very well organized and he learned a ton.

Very friendly, patient and knowledgeable. She worked well with our daughter breaking down drills and explaining what she was looking for. She kept on one thing until our daughter had the grasp of it before moving on even though our girl was suffering from shin splints from track. Very Highly Recommend Marshawn!!!

Great!

Coach Marshawn works with my 12-year-old son and he really enjoys it and improves each session. He says she is the best coach he's had because she knows how to talk to him to help him get better. He works hard with her and enjoys it. We plan to keep working with her. Definitely recommend Coach Marshawn.

GREAT!!!!

My son got a workout! Coach Marshawn has been doing this a while - it shows. She came prepared and worked just as hard as my son. She was engaged and focused on her student (my son) at his lesson. He received valuable feedback/tips- not just about how to make a basket. Get to work; work hard, supportive, skilled, and encouraging approach. My son is looking forward to learning more. What a relief to find someone like Coach Marshawn.

Coach Marshawn is great. My 13 year old needed to improve his dribbling skills - already saw an improvement after one session. Intense session with specialized techniques to improve both right and left hand dribbling.

My son enjoyed the session. Minor mix up about our location that pushed our start time, but not a huge problem. Am hoping we book again soon.

Coach Marshawn was fun and encouraging. My daughter loves her first session and picked up a lot of skills in just one hour. Appreciated Marshawn’s persistence, patience and energy!

Coach Marshawn ran my daughter through several good drills on her first introductory session. My 10- year old daughter liked Marshawn, who was a little reserved but sincere and nice. She put my daughter through a number of drills and gave "homework", specific to needs we discussed and we felt this helped her. So, we will likely book again with Coach Marshawn.

She brought out of my daughter what I knew was there. Looking forward to our next session to continue bringing out and refining her talents.

I did not meet the coach but my 15 year old son came back very happy. He’s played basketball for a few years but never had that one on one training that could help him stand out. First thing he said when he got to the car was, “Mom she was Good! I learned a lot!” He was happy with the skills she taught him and knows gained insight on his ball handling skills. I watched from the car and was impressed with the ease and skill level she taught. We have booked more sessions.

Coach Marshawn hit the ground running with my son. He learned a lot, even in one session, loved it and was super excited to work with her again. I highly recommend her.

Coach Marshawn worked with my daughter for the first time last week. She was very knowledgeable and very encouraging. She sent my daughter home with things to practice. I definitely recommend training with Marshawn!

My son was so happy after meeting with Coach Marshawn, just after the first lesson! He had a bad experience with a rec center coach over the summer, and was VERY nervous about meeting with another coach. He was to the point of not even wanting to tryout for his basketball team anymore. I did not share this experience with coach Marshawn prior. After their first meeting, my normally timid son, could not stop talking about how kind and encouraging she was! She knows how to encourage and build him up in his own game instead of tarring him down. Because of this approach he really worked hard. He was able to focus on what he was doing, and what he needed to do to improve. She really knows what she's doing and how to get on their level to work them to their best ability.

She has relit the love of basketball back in my son, and for that I cannot thank her enough. I would recommend her to anybody on all levels.

Coach Marshawn is great!!! She is what my daughter needed to go that extra mile!

The very first dril that Coach Marshawn did with my daughter I saw an immediate change & that is no exaggeration! She gave her very basic instructions but they were like the pieces of a puzzles that connected & cleared up her frustration & confusion! We have scheduled another session!

I have dealt with a lot of coaches during my 5 kids sports. I personally have coached Middle to HS football along with 20 plus years of basketball in my life. Freshman HS was as high as I got. All this experience and I feel I have found the best fit for my youngest son. Coach Marshawn has been a blessing to us. She is very positive but also knows how to push when the time is right to get what she can out of our son. He always leaves very tired but very happy and excited about his work and session. She has a very good mix of fundamental work along with skill set drills to get him where he needs to be for HS ball. I love how she communicates to him. I have always felt a quality coach could express themselves and get what they want out of players with yelling. I also love the positive feedback she gives on this site. My son likes the feedback after the fact. Again I have dealt with many personal trainers or coaches in basketball, football, lacrosse, or tennis, and coach Marshawn is at the top of the list. A great find. I would be more than happy to answer questions for you. Coach Marshawn has been very good about taking care of business, answering questions, scheduling, and being at the sessions we have scheduled. Thank you Coach Marshawn and we look forward to a long relationship with you.

Coach Marshawn was excellent. Her attention to detail was fantastic and she didn't let my son get away with any shortcuts in learning.

Coach Marshawn is a great coach. She is compassionate about the student. My son likes her coaching.

My son (Freshman in HS) has developed a true love for the game, but felt a bit behind on his bball skills since he only began playing in 8th grade. We've just completed our third sessions and the improvements we have seen are huge. Coach Marshawn is a very positive person and really motivates my son in the way that works for him.

My teenage son adored Coach Marshawn. She was patient and informative with him.

Thank you for your work with Jace. He is learning a lot and I've already noticed a difference. Appreciate the encouragement to help build his confidence!

Coach Marshawn was amazing. After one session I really feel completely different, and much more confident in basketball.

Our daughter had a great time and felt more confident after her first session. She is excited for her next sessions.

Coach Marshawn was fantastic. She is extremely knowledgeable about all facets of the game. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to learn how to play the game

Very good training session. Drills took some time getting used to but got into it the more I did it. Will book again soon

My son has no basketball experience and after one session with Marshawn; all he can talk about is going back and learning more. She took her time with him and was patient. We definitely will be going back.

I had a great session with Coach Marshawn. I am a mid-20s guy with only casual playing experience, and have been wanting to improve my ball handling and general offensive skills for a while. Coach Marshawn had me do different drills to build on these components, and I found them to be engaging and productive. A good overall workout experience.

Marshawn was great with my 5 and 7 year old boys. She made it fun and worked to build on their style and what they were good at. Definitely going to keep using her.

My daughter K. just met with Marshawn for her first session and it was excellent. Marshawn showed K. lots of different things but without overwhelming her (taking things one step at a time). I could see K. improving right away. She had a great time and was eager to schedule more lessons.

I knew that Marshawn was skilled because her bio says she played varsity in college, but just because someone is good at something doesn't necessarily mean they can teach it well -- some people are good at what they do but aren't good at showing others how to do it. So we started by scheduling only an initial session with Marshawn, to make sure that she wasn't just a good player, but also a good teacher too. Well, after the first session, we immediately signed up for five more, so yeah, we're happy!

Coach Marshawn is a great coach. I would recommend coach Marshawn to anyone.

Coach Marshawn, was easy to get in touch with and very accommodating to our schedule and our location of preference. My daughter is very happy with the progress she has made from the first session and looking forward to more sessions to come with her new coach.

Coach Marshawn clearly knows what she's doing, very happy to have had her help me with ball handling, footwork and defense

We reached out to Coach Shawn to spend some time with our middle school and high school girls’ tournament teams, particularly our post players because we are a coaching staff with limited experience in the “post game”. We noticed results almost immediately. Our post players went into the next tournament with a lot more confidence in getting into good position and asserting themselves in the paint which resulted in our post players playing more dominantly and ultimately winning back to back games for us. Coach Shawn is very thoughtful in her approach to training; she is very observant of the various skill levels represented on the team and is able to tailor training and drills to fit the needs of the girls. She also takes a hands on approach, personally participating in drills and getting physical with the girls. In addition, she gives us coaches suggestions on better executing our offense with the players we have and we are so grateful for her insights. Our players look forward to Coach Shawn visiting practice and as a coaching staff we look forward to her supplementing and enhancing what we’re teaching our teams.
