More About Coach Marc

August 2020 - COVID 19 UPDATE: I am now pleased to offer Virtual Training as an ultra-safe COVID alternative. While my core training remains in-person 1-on-1 session, for those that are either remote (far outside the VA area) or just want contactless training, I offer the same solid coaching on fundamentals, drills, and skills to help your player become elite at their position.
And maybe the best part is that these session are available nationwide and independent of weather and shortening daylight on weekdays.

Note that my in-person sessions still comply with all COVID 19 restrictions still in place.

Also, I am honored to have earned the # 1 ranking as football coach in Virginia. I am also in the Top 50 football coaches nationally, and in the top 600 coaches nationally for all youth sports. Please let me use my experience and passion for the game to help your player develop in their skills, understanding, and love of the game.

I coach kids from age 7 through 18 (senior in high school). My specialties are quarterback and defensive back, both of which I played in high school. I tailor my training to the skills most needed for success at the various age levels, I played college football at Penn State as a receiver under Joe Paterno and Fran Ganter (Offensive Coordinator) at the time. I have coached football down to the Flag Level, but locally, I have coached tackle for the Courthouse Rec Association (where I coordinate the Tackle football league) and for the Virginia Beach Mustangs. I am a certified coach with the AAU, VAWA and USAW (wrestling), the VB Mustangs, and the City of Virginia Beach.

Again, I played quarterback and defensive back in High School, receiving All State honors. I later played at Penn State for Joe Paterno from as a wide receiver. I switched positions because, at the time, their would later become a 2nd round draft pick and they had recruited an incoming QB named Kerry Collins (later a 1st round NFL pick).

Nonetheless, learning the receiver position rounded out my knowledge of how, when, and where to throw catchable passes and see defenses from the 'other side of the line'

It was also a great lesson in confidence, calm, and mental preparation to play in a stadium seating 100,000+.

Finally, learning the conditioning, Xs and Os from a Hall of Fame coach and coordinator gave me a process and defensive attacking strategy that is still effective today.

While I cannot claim any Penn State receiving records, I have plenty of catches (including TDs) to say I was a productive player with a strong career.

Although, I never made the NFL, many of my teammates (high school and college) did enter the League and we stay in close contact, especially those that are local.

At all levels for quarterbacks., I continuously emphasize throwing mechanics such as proper grip, ball positioning, follow-through and footwork. For defensive backs, it is about body positioning, reading the receiver, and covering the receiver through to the ball. All of these skills must be committed to muscle memory for success at football's higher levels.

For the youngest players at QB, I focus on developing accuracy, arm motion (which leads to arm strength), and basic ball handling such as fielding the snap and play action. As the player's skill level increases, we move onto throwing different routes, different types of throws and the touch required (e.g., the Out route versus the Go) working our way up to throwing on the run. In high school, I was an option quarterback, so I am skilled in teaching today's read-option and RPO (read-pass option) schemes. From here, we will work on everything from check-downs and hot reads to understanding different man and zone coverage schemes and how to beat them.

Also the final minutes of each session are dedicated to becoming a leader. The mental, emotion, and maturity level skills required to have your teammates trust, follow, and be motivated to do their best for you. I am not only training your player to have the best physical skills but also to be the best person on the field, since high talent almost always comes with high responsibility and expectation.

I strongly encourage parents or siblings to get involved. Every player needs more receivers to throw to or a receiver to cover (for DBs). Players will always leave with skills homework (Secondary in importance to school homework, of course), and parents will be given opportunities to help their player understand and mentally master the skills from lesson to lesson.

Finally, sessions last typically an hour with a few extra minutes for warm up and conditioning. My goal is to coach and train your player, not to spend an hour running them -- this is one of the self-motivating leadership skills that they will master -- to work on as hard on the non-fun parts of the game and much as the cool stuff.

Client Reviews

Coach Marc has been instrumental in helping our son refine his QB skills. He is very informative, patient, and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him.

Very informative coach, my son is new to the sport and Marc was very patient with him.

Super through. I watched him improve my sons throws in one session. He is also exceptionally good at explaining things.

Coach Marc was positive and gave clear direction for my player to follow. He was able to bridge the technical side of the game and the emotional impacts that a player will go through. He seems to have a wide spectrum of knowledge that gives you confidence that he know his craft.

He is really good at explaining things and why it’s important to use

We are very pleased with Marc. He was very knowledgeable and patient with my son. My son has shown a lot of improvement with just one training lesson. We can't wait for more lessons.

We have been incredibly happy with the things our son has learned from Coach Marc! He is very knowledgeable, and does a great job explaining techniques to our son! We would definitely recommend him!

I have 2 boys playing football, a 10th grade TE and an 8th grade linebacker. Both boys have different needs as well as play different positions. Coach Marc took the time to listen and understand what each boy needed and tailored each session for them. The drills they performed were pertinent and useful, but the teaching that went with them was even more valuable. Both boys came away from their first session excited and confident. I can’t wait to see what the follow up sessions have in store.

Coach Marc was great. Very informative. My son learned so much from him during our first session. He is very professional and knowledgeable. We can’t wait to work with Coach Marc again.

My son had an amazing first session with Coach Marc. He learned a lot of information and improved on his basic skills in just this first hour. He had a smile on his face the entire time and cannot wait to come back and learn more. Coach Marc made the session very relevant for my son’s current goals. He had great knowledge of age appropriate play (middle school for my son). I would recommend Coach Marc to anyone who really wants to improve their skills, knowledge, and performance. We are looking forward to the next session.

All of us are in different phases of learning. Some are perhaps more physical than others while many are subtle and more reflective, like when you are ready to hold yourself accountable.

Coach Marc acknowledges your position and then challenges you to develop new ways of leading plays and people. He takes the time to confirm learning has occurred before moving on to the next pearl of wisdom.

In addition, Coach Marc helped my son make substantive changes in how he approaches football and studies. Zander is engaged and passionate.

But perhaps the real benefits are:

- Coach Marc is an independent advisor who can provide frank and neutral advice,
- allows you to talk about how to run plays and explore options while considering new plays,
- will be your conscience and mentor to keep you on track, and
- Overall is just a great individual!

WHEN you need to change abruptly or evolve gently, Coach Marc will be there.

Coach Marc is awesome! My son just finished his first session and is eager to start the next! Coach Marc showed my son the basics which included ball handling and foot positioning which was great! We will definitely be booking several sessions!

Coach Marc was awesome! I feel that my son learned more in one session than a whole year of playing the game. Marc is a wealth of knowledge. He covers a lot in a short period, but is patient and thorough. He also takes the time to make sure my son understands the "why".

Marc seems to be a great example of the classic "tell-show-do-apply" method. He explains how and why followed by physically demonstrating the principle. Then he gives the student an opportunity to show that he understands and is able to do what is asked. Finally, they apply what was learned together.

I would recommend Marc to anyone interested in taking their child's football skills to the next level!

Excellent Coach. Marc was awesome with my boys. I had 3 sessions over the course of a weekend and I was thoroughly impressed. My oldest son plays QB, DB and my middle son plays RB, LB but covers slot receivers on defense. We did 2 sessions at QB and 1 defensive session working at Defensive Back. He was able to give them some jewels on both sides of the ball. I will be scheduling my sons another session with Marc. We come from Fredericksburg to Virginia Beach to work out with Marc and it was worth every mile I had to drive!

Coach Marc is a very personable coach who did a great job connecting with and coaching our 12 year old quarterback hopeful. Shortly after his first coaching session, our son passed for his first touchdown of the spring 6 v 6 season. We definitely plan to try and book Coach Marc for future sessions.

Coach Marc is very detailed and ensure his customers get all he has to offer. He understands football education is just as important as the physical part of the sport.

After the session with Coach Marc I felt like alot of the holes in my game improved and he provided me with much guidance, an excellent coach that will get you where you need to go and the skills you need to get there.

After my first session with Coach Wagner, I already knew there was a lot of things I needed to dusty off among learning new things as well. Not only is he educated in the game, but he knows how to teach it to im different terms to make it easy for people who don’t understand quite yet. I definitely will be doing another session with Coach, because I have a dream, and he clearly knows how hard I’m willing to work for it!

Coach Marc helped me immensely. When we started our sessions I wasn’t confident with my routes or making sharp cuts. After only a few sessions my coaches started noticing and allowing me to move up the depth chart. Coach Marc is a great coach, he has shared so much knowledge of the game that he learned over his college career all of which has improved my ability to play the game.

I would recommend Coach Marc. He does a good job talking through not only the mechanics of the game but also the strategy. I have had one session and I just signed up for 5 more.

Coach Mark is awesome. He has the perfect balance to keep the sessions fun while he is being firm with his lesson. After the first 15 mins into the session. I new I had made the right choice for my son. As a former football player and having a family member that played 15 yrs in the NFL. It was very clear to me that Mark has the knowledge, experience and most importantly the passion to train my son.

Great coach so far my son really enjoyed first session

Coach Marc was a great coach, he broke everything down for me so that I could understand. I look forward to more sessions with him.

There is just so much to teach at this age we decided to do two hour session. Marc is very knowledgeable and brakes things Down for my son to understand. Son has enjoyed each practice so far and looking forward to the next.
I would recommend him any time

My son, 15 but new to football this year, played JV. We looked for a coach to provide 1:1 assistance in an effort to help with his chances of making varsity next year. He worked with Coach Marc for the first time today. My son felt as if he was patient, thorough & had a great ability to coach. We have two additional sessions planned & expect to continue with Coach Marc through the off season.

Coach Marc was an excellent coach! After one session I can already see a difference in my sons knowledge. He is very knowledgeable of the different texhniques and skills that it takes to be an excellent player. I will definitely be booking more sessions!

Coach, I would like to thank you for being an awesome Coach these past 2 years! Devin really enjoyed playing for you. I know he learned a lot from you. And I know Deon enjoyed coaching with you this year. The team really is a great group of kids. I truly will miss having you as Devin's Coach! So thank you again for all you have done.
