More About Coach Marcus

My coaching journey began in high school, where I was one of the top hurdlers in my city and state. Even as a student-athlete, other hurdlers would come to our school to learn from me. I became a USA Track & Field Certified Coach in 2006 while on a full-ride NCAA Division I scholarship at Tennessee State University.

Over the years, I’ve coached college conference champions, high school state champions, and national qualifiers. In addition to hurdle training, I have experience as a private personal trainer specializing in weight gain, weight loss, muscle building, conditioning, and speed development.

I stepped away from coaching during the COVID-19 pandemic while working in corporate America and relocating to Dallas. But my passion for developing athletes never left—and now I’m back with renewed purpose, ready to help the next generation unlock their full potential through discipline, smart training, and individualized coaching.

I’m a former NCAA Division I Track & Field athlete and 3x All-Conference honoree in the 60m hurdles, 110m hurdles, and 400m hurdles. I was ranked among the top U.S. hurdlers during the 2004 indoor season and held the 60m hurdle school record at Tennessee State University.

In high school, I was a 3x All-State 60m hurdler, All-State in the 110m hurdles, and a former record-holder in the 60m, 110m, and 300m hurdles. I represented my state at the prestigious Midwest Meet of Champions and hold several CANUSA Games records.

My own athletic journey took a turn after a major injury caused by skipping my warm-up and stretching routine—something I stress to every athlete I train. That experience fuels my coaching philosophy: discipline, consistency, and humility will take you further than talent alone.

Each training session begins with a structured warm-up and mobility routine to prep the body and prevent injury. We’ll move into technical running drills, followed by hurdle-specific progressions tailored to your skill level.

Sessions also include speed and endurance components to reinforce proper hurdle mechanics at race pace. For athletes looking to build strength and explosiveness, I offer integrated weight training to enhance starts, hurdle clearance, and overall power.

We have a High School senior that started working with us his Junior year in the 110h Hurdles and 300i Hurdles. In 10th grade he ran 16.47 in the 110s and 42.15 in the 300s now as a senior he runs 14.94 in the 110s and 38.95 in the 300s. He still has some meets to run but the growth is still continuing .
