More About Coach Lowell
I specialize in working with clients new to running. My professional experience is in designing and operating a wide range of youth development programs for 25 years. I also practiced therapy for part of my career. Recently, I have added athletics to the milieu and noticed that it had a profound effect on the personal development of the youth and adults I worked with. I trained a group of teenagers to run a 5K, 10K, Half and Full Marathon, and many had profound changes in their level of confidence and personal pride. I do not have any professional coaching credentials per se, but I have a Master's in Social Work degree and I have been coaching now for a couple of years. I see running as a transformative tool for personal development in the life of youth and anyone needing positive change in their lives.
I have completed 6 half marathons, 2 century bike rides, and 1 marathon. I have been able to use running to enrich my life in many ways, and I find it very meaningful to guide others on similar unique journeys of self-discovery and wellness. I have an interest in mid-life and youth development issues and how running can be used to redefine oneself. As an amateur myself, I am sympathetic to feelings of self-doubt and self-consciousness. I always start exactly where the client is. I tell folks that our goal is to find one's limits --whatever they are -- then to "knock on the door" and see what happens. I thrive on helping individuals define success for themselves.
I prefer to create a customized training plan so that they can reach their goals over the course of a season. The ideal sequence would be 18 weeks of weekly one hour sessions where I run with the trainees and provide accountability and guidance regarding the other runs that they would do during the week on their own. If desired, before we run or after we could talk about the mental processes and what they are learning about themselves as they run. The young people I have trained enjoy having me run alongside them to pace them and help them develop their own sense of confidence. I keep detailed records and focus on competing against yourself not others. I enjoy reflecting on the runners' own feelings about themself and providing good-natured accountability and self-care. I am willing to help save costs by coaching more than one at a time.

Coach Lowell is a legend. Super flexible, personable, and attentive in-between sessions. More than recommend, I actively encourage you to take some sessions with him!
Youth trainee who went from not even being able to do a half mile to running a full marathon. (Testimonial)
During COVID, I was chained to nothingness. I remember when Lowell told me that my mental game was the toughest on the team because though I came in last every single time, I stayed motivated. My life is 100% different now.
