More About Coach LaRue

A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Certified Tennis Performance Specialist, Certified Titleist Performance Trainer (golf conditioning), Certified Sports Performance and Injury Prevention Trainer, and Certified Youth Conditioning Specialist with 22-years experience. I have worked with athletes of all ages (from 6 - 75 years old) representing all levels of competition (recreational athletes to elite and nationally-ranked athletes), helping them improve their on-the-field performance and reduce their risk of injury. The centerpiece of my training practice is Strength and Conditioning, Sports Performance, Injury Prevention and Post-Rehab work with athletes of all ages, competition levels and sports.

I am a Sports Sciences expert contributor to several sports publications and organizations including ESPN.com, LiveStrong.com, Tennis Life Magazine, Women's Basketball Magazine, the International Sports Sciences Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Continuing education - both as a student and as a trainer of other trainers is very important to me. I currently serve as Expert Contributing Author for the International Sports Sciences Association, the National Strength and Conditioning Association and PTontheNet. I have conducted training clinics at such organizations as the George Washington University Tennis Center, and have attended professional training and continuing education conducted by the Washington Nationals professional baseball team's Medical Staff and Strength and Conditioning staff.

I also have served as an adjunct faculty member for Female Sports Performance and Strength & Conditioning.

I work with athletes from a wide-variety of sports, including basketball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, track, wrestling, crew, field hockey, lacrosse and more. I served as consulting Strength and Conditioning Coach to Shepherd University, and have conducted sport-specific training clinics at a number of local sports organizations including the George Washington University Tennis Center and several country clubs throughout the DC metropolitan area. As well I work with several local physical therapists, receiving referrals to work with their athletes after they have finished their physical therapy.

My goal is to work with each athlete to make them the best that they can be, both on the field and off. Strength, power, speed, agility and quickness are all cornerstones to improved sports performance in most if not all sports.

All-City baseball player (Chicago); MVP baseball (3 years); Ranked in Top Ten (Men's 4.0) by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) - MidAtlantic Section for over 10 years; competed in USTA State/District Championships five (5) consecutive years.

There is no 'typical' session when we train together. Our work together begins with a Needs Analysis in which we will work together to determine: your particular strengths and weaknesses, the skills needed for your particular sport, and the injury profile for your sport. Then, each session we will devote time and attention to helping you improve on the areas that you are weak in (e.g. sport-specific strength, speed, quickness, balance, flexibility or whatever), as well as continue to improve on your strengths. My sessions are FUN but CHALLENGING!

Client Reviews

LaRue began working with my daughter in the spring of her Freshman year in high school and continued for over three years. At the time we began to see LaRue my daughter, a four year varsity basketball player, was beginning to have a lot of trouble rolling her ankles and the problems were spreading to her knees. We initially saw LaRue to strengthen her to avoid those chronic problems and try to avoid any of the serious injuries female athletes are prone to, particularly ACL tears. LaRue’s expertise in injury avoidance in female athletes is like nothing I’ve ever seen and I’m happy to report my daughter ceased having major ankle rolls and never had anything more serious. But her work with LaRue had other benefits as well. Her physical and mental strength both grew immensely and her speed improved amazingly. On top of all that LaRue knows out to work with young people. He’s inspirational and makes it fun and he’s a great role model. We were so lucky to have found him and it’s not possible for me to recommend him any higher! (AS) Allyn*
