More About Coach Kate
I have been coaching sprinters, runners, and pole vaulters since 2007. My specialties are pole vault and sprint mechanics, and I have experience working with athletes of all ages and experience levels. While I can help with sprinting form for all sports I am unable to coach track and field athletes looking for help with hurdles, or jumping events other than the pole vault.
As a pole vaulter, I was a 5-Time NCAA All-American, 2005 NCAA Pole Vault Champion, and 2-Time Olympic Trials competitor. My experience as an athlete taught me a lot about running mechanics and pole vault technique, and my certification as a personal trainer helped me learn more about strength development and injury prevention.
A training session with me will vary based on the athlete's goals and events, but will focus on making the athlete faster, stronger, and more efficient in their event. Some of the typical elements of a training session include:
- Instruction on proper running mechanics
- Coaching in event specific technique
- Core strength training
- Plyometric drills – fast, powerful movements such as jumping and bounding
- Training in correct weight lifting techniques
- Sports related agility movements
- Calisthenics – body weight exercises
- Static and dynamic stretching

Kate took the time to get to know my daughter and her specific circumstances and objectives. She also provided some insightful feedback and work that we could take back on and use on our own. We are looking forward to finding additional opportunities to work with Kate again!

We scheduled Kate to help our 10 year old son improve his sprinting mechanics for soccer. We couldn't be happier with the session. Kate observed our son's running technique, had him do some specific drills, and left us with some simple but very effective exercises and focus points to keep in mind after the session.
It's amazing how effective one session with Kate has been - by the end of the hour he looked noticeably faster! He is now running with better technique - and most importantly with substantially more confidence. We would recommend Kate to anyone.

Coach Kate was an excellent coach for my daughter, and tailored the time to exactly what we wanted! Very organized with the workouts and also varied them so that they were slightly different each time. Looking forward to working with her again soon!

Coach Kate has been tremendous. She's taken the time to understand our son's needs and then has adapted and developed a training program that serves his improvement. All this while also keeping it fun and engaging for him. He looks forward to and is excited about each upcoming session. We couldn't be happier.

My son just had his first session with Kate and he was pleasantly surprised at how much he improved his running technique. He really enjoyed working with Kate and wants to do so again.

Aside from being an experienced and professional coach, there are a few things I really like about Kate: she puts the needs of the athlete first, she has excellent communication skills (hard to find), she often participates in the activity rather than stand there and watch, she is reasonably priced, she is friendly and down to earth. Athletes: Kate is the real deal.

Coach Kate did an excellent job with my 13 year-old daughter. We will definitely purchase more sessions so that my daughter can focus on specific areas important for her advancement.

I would recommend Coach Kate without hesitation. She has coached me in sprint mechanics, practice drills and general conditioning. I believe her experience as a Div 1 college athlete has helped her become an effective coach. In my first meet I was able to achieve a personal best in the 200m. Coach Kate is flexible, skilled, patient and easy to work with.

My son's first session with Coach Kate was filled with great information for us as parents and our son said to give her a five star rating.

Kate "coached up" my 13 year old daughter with sprinting fundamentals. I appreciated Kate's professionalism and her ability to relate to my daughter. She clearly has the credentials but her ability to teach really made this session worth while. We are looking forward to seeing Coach Kate again.

Coach Kate is great to work with. My daughter saw improvement from the very first session. She is easy to work with and easy to understand.
My daughter made it to State with Coach Kate's help! Thanks Kate!

Kate Conwell is an excellent coach. Kate has strong command of the technical details of pole vault and can convey her experience and insights clearly. She has a grasp of individual needs, coaching both a boy and girl at the same time who are at very different levels, with no issues keeping them both engaged and progressing well. Kate has a firm but empathetic personal style that is motivating. And, she has the chops -- having accomplished a great deal in pole vault herself. She speaks with authority, from experience, and she gets results. We love working with Kate.
Austin, FBI agent (Testimonial)
I've been training for a law enforcement fitness test for quite some time, but had really hit a wall in improving my 300m sprint. My wife found Kate and set me up with several sessions with her. I'd known that my sprinting form was pretty bad before and that it was likely what was holding me back. After working with Kate for a couple of months, my sprint improved quite a bit, and I beat my previous best time by nearly 3/4 of a second on the test. In addition, I ran a personal best in the 1.5 mile run on the test as well. Kate taught me what my form should be and also helped me immensely in improving both my form and endurance.
Daunte G, head track coach King's High School (Testimonial)
Kate was a coach for me at the high school level. Not only was Kate a phenomenal coach for her event but she created a great plan of attack for her athletes. She was able to manage 15-20 kids on a daily basis working in strength, technique as well as actual event work. Kate had an uncanny way of coaching at the specific athlete’s level; this is sometimes difficult for a NCAA champion to do when she is dealing with kids who have rarely, if ever, seen the event. Her ability to assess each individual and make the workouts pertain to the specific athlete was even more impressive. I would say that her flexibility and her communication skills are two of her greatest qualities; she was able to communicate to her athletes and be flexible with the time frame and her access to the kids. One of the best things I can say about Kate is that to this day, and this upcoming season, I will still be using some of her drills and techniques and I am entering my 23rd year of coaching. The one negative I would say about Kate is she lives to darn far away from my school now!
Jean B., high school athlete (Testimonial)
I had the pleasure of having Coach Kate train me in pole-vaulting my Junior and Senior years of High School. I was not only able to excel in my pole-vaulting skills but my overall athletic ability. Kate genuinely cares about the growth and success of each of her athletes/students. She consistently made an effort to see me develop as an individual as well as an athlete. By contributing her own expansive knowledge and experiences Kate was able to coach with me a background and level of talent that few others could have received. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a great personal trainer and coach to consider Coach Kate Conwell.
Craig, father of athlete (Testimonial)
I had the pleasure of having my daughter, Akemi, work-out with Kate Conwell year round for approximately 14 months. Akemi is a sprinter so Kate focused on three areas: speed, agility and strength. Akemi, who was a sophomore at the time, loved the workouts. Though Kate pushed her, Akemi increased in all three of those areas and gave her confidence in her ability. The workouts were intense but at the end of the session there was always a smile on my daughter’s face. Also being a former NCAA Division 1 champion in the pole vault, Kate brought instant credibility to the work-outs and her comments and recommendations were heard and taken very seriously.
