More About Coach Karl
I have been in charge of the North Port Athletics Club since 2016 which participates in AAU Club Athletics. Prior to this I have coached at North Port High which falls under the FHSAA for the 2016 and 2017 outdoor track seasons. My experience with coaching goes back to 1995 when I was coaching track in Jamaica, in the Business Sector which consisted of adult athletes. Presently I work mainly with high school athletes but as you can see I have coached a wide cross section of people in different age groups from ages 7yrs old up to 60 yrs. Therefore my experiences as a coach is vast due to me having to manage teams that participated in championship competitions along with individual athletes. I have been a USATF Level 1 Coach from 2014 -2018 after which I decided to become certified as a Level 2 Coach in 2018 .This allowed me to specialize in sprints and hurdles, instead of just having a basic idea of how to condition athletes .
Athletically I have have competed on the USA Masters, NCAA 11 , Jamaican Collegiate and Club circuits. My biggest race as a athlete was competing at Penn Relays against the Santa Monica Track Club in the early 1990's , which was made up of two Olympians Carl Lewis and Leroy Burrell . My team was able to place 3rd in this Olympic Development 4x100m which was considered a great accomplishment at the time. I have various medals as a 100,200 and 400m athlete competing for CAST ,CAST Club, New York Institute Of Technology and as a Masters Athlete I participated as a independent athlete before joining the SoCal team for one season in 2016. I have been a member of All American Relay Team in College 1994 and won at the Penn Relays as a College and Masters athlete from 1990 to 2018 . My athletics career has seen me travel all over the USA , Jamaica and Europe.
My typical session would entail me greeting the client and introducing myself in order to make them feel comfortable . After this my conversation would be to find out where they are physically in order to see if what I had planned as a workout is ideal for that particular client. Basically my workouts start with slow jogging of 400m followed up by a dynamic warm up which last from 20-30mins. When the warm up is over we would take a break for 5 minutes and conversate for me to establish if the client is comfortable or struggling with the activities . This I do every session before I move on to specific work based on what the client needs are. Lets say we are working on techniques, I would incorporate mostly teaching them how to properly position their body in order to move efficiently. When this is completed I would have them jog down 400m followed by some static stretching. All through my workouts breaks are given for rehydration from time to time.
