More About Coach Karen

Have assisted in coaching a group between the ages of 12-20+ and coached a swim team with kids from 12+ at my local YMCA.
Currently possess CPR & First Aid certifications.

Have been a competitive swimmer for 12 years and was part of the Mexican National Team for 6 years. Competed in several International Championships including 2008 World Swimming Championships. Was part of an NCAA Division II College Swim Team and eventually transferred to an NCAA Division I College Swim Team. I was the absolute champion of the 2005 Swimming Nationals which qualified me to the World Championships, also broke record in the 2010 Central American Championships in the 50 backstroke and won the entire event.

My sessions would start with a warm up, followed by drills, really focusing on drills (floatation, form, technique) and then move on to endurance in the water with either aerobic or anaerobic workouts, resistance, speed, and potency. I really like to focus on all four strokes so I'd do several IM sets and also kick sets to improve the potency and power of their kicks and make the strokes very efficient. Afterwards, we'd do a cool down set and finish with a little more stretching as I believe that flexibility is key for swimming.

Client Reviews

She is a great swim coach. Being a non swimmer, she made me feel relax in the water and feel confident. Learning how to swim as an adult is quite scary. Karen gave me a lot of points to remember and I felt my swim lesson is relaxing and I had a great time. Thanks
