More About Coach Kamau
Although I have helped the very young to level up their abilities, I've decided to invest my knowledge and communication of elite athletics in the 15 and over age group. My specialty is developing drills and communicating complex concepts which bridge the gap between an athlete's understanding/ability and elite level performances.
I've trained for the Olympics along with Olympians by Olympians and I have much to share with any athlete who is hungry to learn, prepare and succeed. I've helped very young athletes make elite clubs. I've helped young athletes make teams, earn scholarships and go on to compete in college. And I've helped collegiate athletes break through performance barriers and have upper level success.
My specialties include instructing the fundamentals, generating unique drills to solidify those fundamentals, detecting & troubleshooting every aspect of execution/performance and reverse engineering various styles of elite performance so that the athlete can choose the style that works best for him or her.
My style of coaching is unique and parents and other coaches are welcome to accompany any athlete who attends my sessions. I've been a private consultant/contractor to various track clubs over the years and I can assure you that the reason I was always asked to return is because I know what I'm doing, the athletes absolutely see results and, just as importantly, I put the fun back into coaching.
State qualifier in Swimming (4 year Letterman) & Track (only competed 2 years 2 year Letterman) - high school
Earned Scholarship at Indiana University, 5 time Big Ten Championship winner, 4 year Letterman, Most Improved Athlete, etc.
NIKE sponsored Pro Athlete Triple Jump - Multiple meet records, multiple USA Track & Field Championships/World Quals
Indiana Invaders Track Club - Nationally ranked Decathlete Multiple USA T&F Champs, Meet records, National Ranked 6th
No matter the level the athlete, we'll review the basics for each event. After cleaning up the basics, we'll troubleshoot all aspects of execution per event. The fun begins with drills designed specifically to address the needs of each phase of any event.
The entire coaching session is filled with positive reminders and inspirational concepts that are known only to elite athletes. That is, the mentality of Olympians and champions is a special one. I have a lifetime of exposure to the mentality that drives, motivates and inspires a champion.
Once we have the mind in line with our priority for executing the fundamentals, we can begin generating a workout strategy the fits the exact needs of the athlete. As a former decathlete I understand how to manage the precious time available given the particular needs of the athlete (waste no time/set priorities in training). Cross training helps the body and mind utilize multiple aspects of mind and muscle memory. It also builds an all around athlete, prevents burnout/boredom and allow the athlete to learn and reinforce critical concepts from a variety of athletic maneuvers (fun way to reinforce the same objective).
Finally, we'll have performance-trial-based workouts. There is no need to continuously do the full version of events that take a tremendous toll on the body. I have designed a variety of performance based workouts that allow the athlete and myself to make an accurate assessment of execution and progress without breaking the body down. Of course doing the real thing is a part of the training, so not to worry.
