More About Coach Justin

Basketball has been my way of life since I was 5 years old. Playing at all levels I know exactly what it takes to be successful at all levels. I enjoy working with Beginners and teaching them the importance of building a strong fundamental foundation. And I love working with advanced players and showing them the details of the game to improve on. Mentoring athletes and preparing them for their basketball journey is something I get the most fulfillment from.

I have accomplished a lot in my playing career. I have competed at the Junior College, NCAA, and recently just retired from playing 11 years of Professional Basketball overseas. I played at Saddleback Community College in California, won the State Championship my freshmen season and was an Orange Coast All-Conference performer my sophomore season. I then went on to earn a full athletic scholarship to the the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Here I was an Pacific West All-Conference performer both years I played, and also won my University's Male Athlete of the Year award my senior season.

I played Professionally for 11 years and retired in May 2017.
I have played in Germany BBL, Romania Div A, Mexican LNBP, and Puerto Rico BSN. I have been an all star two times in my professional career and have lead my team's in 3PT FG and FT percentages practically my entire career. Also I am proud to say that I won my first Professional Championship in 2015 with the Soles de Mexicali in the Mexican LNBP.

I'm all about FUNDAMENTALS. I coach/train the importance of building from the ground up. I focus on shooting, movement and spacing.

A basic training session consist of form shooting as a warm up while coaching and correcting technique. Then it depends on the clients learning curve on what drill I will move on to.

I never rush a clients progress. They need to understand the importance of there foundation (fundamentals). Once the foundation is strong, we move on to shooting skills/drills: movement without the ball, getting open, creating space, and spacing the floor. We get up a lot of reps in my training sessions.

As a parent you can only hope that a coach will be as concerned with your child as you are. However unrealistic that may be as a expectation. Sometimes you find that rarity in life and as coach. Although it deeply pains me because when you find someone as good at what they do as Coach Justin, you want to keep it all for yourself. Then you realize that unselfishness is one of the qualities that you admire most in the coach you were fortunate to have located on this app. I have tried many coaches on this app from the Gold, to the silver, to the one with no rating. By far Justin is the best and I mean by far. His level to detail, toughness with a hint of patience is what makes him the best to me. He will push your child and challenge them is the most unique way. He is always on time, treats you and your child with the utmost respect and tremendously values your time. If you think it ends at the training session you are totally wrong you and your child have a detailed email with homework to work on at your leisure. Every week my child has attended I see growth not just on a basketball court, but in life in general. I could not ask for more. Today as I write this review Coach Justin's last words to my son after the session resonated with me, he told my son "Never be afraid to make mistakes" that gem alone was worth the price of admission to the Pure Joy basketball show. Thank you coach Justin! I look forward to our continued partnership with helping my child develop and grow.

Coach Justin helped me get back into shape for quarantine (professional and safe, and makes sure to follow all procedures at all times) and provided immediate help and support in that hard journey. He's able to translate his ability to skill range and break things down as he would himself. His lessons are structured and focused, making them perfect for getting the best out of that session. He even provides follow up workouts to help you through your workouts.
