More About Coach Julia

I was a college athlete who upon graduating, began coaching, refereeing and teaching clinics in Field Hockey and Soccer. After completing my Personal Training certification, I then received my Running Coach certification. I have worked with both adults and teens in improving their general fitness and in helping them to reach their specific running goals.

I was a 4-year starter on my college Field Hockey team and initially ran strictly as a means to an end; to make sure I was in shape for the rigors of game play. After graduating, I discovered the joy of running as a form of not only physical well being, but as a way of creating balance in my life. I have been racing for about 13 years at various distance, including 5K, 5M, 8K, 10K, 10M, 15K, Half and Full Marathon, as well as a Sprint Triathlon. I run an average of about 10 races each year, many of which are in an effort to chip away at the goal my daughter and I have set to run a race in every state. Together, she and I have received 25 Age Group medals throughout the years.

In the initial consultation with a new athlete, we will talk about your running background, goals and about you in general, so I am better able to prescribe a personalized running plan. I will also analyze your running form prior to our first full workout together.

After the initial meeting, a typical session begins with a warm up and some dynamic stretching or active flexibility exercises to be sure your muscles are ready for the main body of the workout. After this we will get into meat of our workout, targeting your specific goals, including intervals, hills or goal pace runs. We will end the workout with a light cool down and some stretching.

Coach Julia was very helpful with my 11 year old. She didn't talk down to her and made it easy for her to understand how she wanted her to change her gait and what to practice. She explained muscle groups and made the training session fun.

Coach Julia played a key role in helping my high school senior daughter achieve the best cross country season of her running career. This is my first experience hiring a run coach ever. And I am SO happy I found Julia! She built my running plan for my particular goals. She helps me to gently push my limits that I wouldn’t be able to do on my own. It’s is challenging enough to move the needle but still enjoyable and doable so I’m looking forward to my workouts and making progress. I booked online sessions only and it worked perfectly for me. Julia was awesome. Our daughter needed to improve her explosiveness and mile times for high school lacrosse. Julia met with her once a week to train and gave her a training schedule for the rest of the week. Julia then measured improvement over an 8 week period. Our daughter's times and explosiveness improved exponentially. She also gained a ton of confidence going into tryouts and easily made the varsity lacrosse team! Kudos to Julia for making it happen!

Coach Julia in one word: fantastic. I approached her as an applicant for an Army ROTC scholarship as I was entering college, and Coach Julia created an outstanding plan for me. We worked hard to get my terrible mile time to an extremely competitive score, and the hard work paid off! I ended up getting the scholarship and am continuing my training with her in preparation for the upcoming school year/ROTC class. Her workout plans and instructions are always very easy to understand, and even when they aren’t she is always willing to answer questions! Just purely from a fitness perspective she is a fantastic coach. And then from the military prospective Coach Julia excels at achieving high performance goals!

I booked Coach Julia to work with my children to help them clean their running skills and help them develop a plan for their upcoming XC seasons. Coach Julia quickly identified ways for them to improve and developed goals for their individual plans.

Coach Julia is very hardworking and encouraging workout coach. She has not only helped me achieve my workout goals, but also has trained me to challenge them. There were a lot of times during which our sessions together were extremely challenging, but that is normal and in the end it was my responsibility to fight through those challenges. She used to assign me specific workouts which I had to do whenever we weren't meeting. Yes, there were times when I just couldn't or didn't want to do those workouts assigned on that day, but that is my fault. In the end, I could see myself slowly improving in my runs and my upper and lower body workouts. I would say a 5/5 star rating for Coach Julia would be too less.

She spends time to get to know you and your goals and is super flexible with scheduling. Julia is truly invested in your goals- and I’ve only had one session so far!!! She’s very knowledgeable and I know I’m in good hands.

Julia is absolutely phenomenal. She turned running into something I began looking forward to after only a few lessons, even though at first I had been loathe to set out on the treadmill or the track. She's a super understanding & experienced coach who challenges me with new workouts every single session and never fails to motivate me to push my limits. It was the first race I ever ran, and not only did she prepare me for the race, she made me fall in love with the sport. She not only is able to just coach you, she cares for you.
