More About Coach Jorge
I have over 14 years of experience coaching athletes, most notably as the head coach for both the men's and women's cross country teams at the College of Lake County, Grayslake, IL. I've had the privilege of coaching the Distance Squad of our local AAU Track Club for the last two summers. My coaching philosophy centers on the importance of mechanics and fundamentals, which I believe are crucial for long-term athletic development.
I've worked with athletes at various levels, from beginners to more advanced competitors. I emphasize proper running form, pacing strategies, and endurance-building techniques, ensuring that my athletes build a strong foundation in these essential skills.
I typically work with athletes ranging from middle school to collegiate levels, allowing me to tailor my training programs to meet their specific needs.
In high school, I was a standout distance runner, excelling in both cross country and track. I was full of potential and failed to leverage my talent to open up doors coming out of high school.
After high school, I took my passion for running to the military, competing in several local races. These experiences not only honed my competitive skills but also taught me the value of teamwork and perseverance.
As I transitioned off of Active Duty, I joined my community college's cross country team to help me get in running shape and was convinced to compete. After enduring bilateral shin splints that turned into stress fractures, my first running injury ever, I recovered and was able to qualify to the NJCAA National Championship.
In a typical session with me, clients can expect a structured and personalized approach focused on their goals and current fitness level.
Initial Assessment
We begin with a thorough assessment to understand the athlete's goals, strengths, weaknesses, and any previous injuries. This helps me tailor the session to their needs. I often discuss their performance objectives - whether it's improving strength, agility, endurance, or sport-specific skills.
Warm-Up
Next, we move into a dynamic warm-up which will most likely include an 800 meter jog. This will allow me the opportunity to observe mechanics in a relaxed state. Next, we'll include mobility drills and sport-specific movements to prepare the body for more intense activity.
Drills and Exercises
Once warmed up, we dive into focused drills to align with the session's goals. Starts/take-offs, accelerations and power phase, repeats at specific distances based on goals.
Observation and Feedback
Throughout the session, I closely observe the athlete's form and execution. I provide real-time feedback, highlighting areas for improvement and reinforcing good technique. This might involve breaking down a specific movement or suggesting modifications to enhance performance.
Cool Down and Reflection
At the end of the session, we cool down with stretching and mobility exercises. I also take the time to reflect on what we accomplished, discussing any observations and setting goals for the next session. This ensures continuous progress and keeps the athlete engaged and motivated.
Overall, my aim is to create a supportive environment where athletes can develop their skills, build strength, and enjoy the process of training.

Client Reviews
Jeff N./ Father of athlete (Testimonial)
Working with Coach Jorge has been a game-changer for my son's speed and agility. At 6'3" and 200lbs, improving his 60-yard dash time is crucial to play at a D1 level. Jorge's expertise is making all the difference. He focused on technique, breaking the spring into segments, emphasizing a powerful start, straight-line running, and consistent form. Through cone drills and cardio work, my son learned how to maintain speed and stamina, and Jorge even incorporated stretching routines that he can use as part of his baseball warm-up. This experience has been invaluable for my son's athletic development, and we're grateful for Jorge's dedication and guidance.
