More About Coach Jon

I have been involved heavily in swimming since the age of 7. Growing up competing in the Northwest as one of five children, swimming quickly became a lifestyle. With the help of coaches and family I worked my way to the national stage traveling internationally a few times to compete. I left Oregon for Ohio for 4 years at Kenyon College where I helped guide the Lords back to the top of the NCAA Division III for the 32nd time in 34 years.
I always told myself I would never get into coaching and one summer I found myself sick of lifeguarding, so I tried swim lessons. I love teaching and working with various levels of athletes. What drives me to teach is seeing the transfer, understand of skill, and possible desire to compete (not for everyone).

Competitive Swimmer:

I will want to see race footage of all strokes. At the first session I will also inquire for where the swimmers trains at, what they are currently doing in practice, what they expect to learn from me working with them and vice versa. After the first session I will be able to have a better understanding of what needs to be worked on. Sending videos of race footage over email is helpful, but I will go to the basics and fundamentals, which leads to the next point.

For all clients I work with, I will take the time to work on fundamentals. It doesn't matter if you've been swimming for 10 years or even 1 year. Skills, technique, and attitude will determine the altitude of the swimmer and family.
