I first get to know the client by finding out what they are looking for in a trainer and what goals they have for themselves. I begin my session by teaching them how to properly warm up and stretch for their given sport or training session. Once they have warmed up properly we move to form work or pace work if it is track. If I am training in a field event then I break that field event down into its various parts and take them through one part at a time until I am satisfied that they can move on. If it is a running event then will do drills to prepare them for that event. If it is a sprint event then I will teach them proper form before we move to a possible workout if they are ready. If they are a distance runner then once I know their goals then after some striders so I can evaluate their form we will move to pace work determined by their goals. If I am getting them ready for a fitness test then we will work on the parts of the fitness test (this workout can be broken down into several sessions focusing on each part).
All sessions start with a warm up consisting of jogging, stationary bike or treadmill depending on training followed by stretching, dynamic drills, the workout and a cool down and stretching. Once they have satisfied my expectations on knowing how to properly warm up the warm up can be down without me and before their session begins.
