More About Coach John

I've been coaching private lessons for over 30 years and have coached all different age groups. I've coached privately in Chicago, Colorado, and Texas. Former scout for the Baltimore Orioles and teach as time permits. In the past, I coached for the San Antonio Rhinos select organization, (hitting and pitching) from 2010-2013 U9 - U13. 2014 -2016 acting advisor for Lights Out Baseball organization levels U14 - U18 San Antonio Texas.
I excel at one on one pitching and hitting for players of all ages. I provide the necessary foundation to advance each player to the next level.
I understand the importance of patience with each child and instill proper technique to get the most out of each of my players. I look forward to discussing in detail a plan of attack to advance your player.

Baseball Career:
Pitcher. Elmwood Park High School (Illinois)1976 – 1979 Pitcher. Chicago Cubs organization. 1979 – 1981 Pitcher. Cleveland Indians organization. 1982 – 1985 Pitcher. Milwaukee Brewers organization. 1986 – 1990 Pitcher. Mercury Tigers Taipei Taiwan Chinese Professional Baseball League. 1991 – 1992

2013 Associate Scout : Baltimore Orioles Baseball Club Coaching Experience:
1985 – Present: Private Instructor throughout South Texas. Camps, Clinics - Chicago / San Antonio
I spent 13 years in professional baseball – 12 of them in the United States and 1 year overseas in Taipei Taiwan. John Miglio pitched for the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers organizations along with the Mercury Tigers of the Chinese Professional League. Miglio was a 4 time all star during his 13 year career as well as a member of the 1986 California League Championship team the Stockton Ports. Miglio's best season was 1987 as a Texas League-All-Star with the El Paso Diablos compiling a 7 and 2 record with 18 saves and was runner up for the fireman of the year award for the Texas league.
During my lenghty career I pitched in 425 games (USA) with a lifetime ERA of 3.66 with 65 saves, 643 strikeouts in 698 innings pitched.

Pitching is very detailed, the way I teach is I spoon feed each player from the ground up, teaching them every movement a pitcher will make in the delivery. example of 1st session: discuss the ball itself (10:00 min +/-) discuss seams/spins of the baseball and how the ball should be held and released. break the player down into power position and start them understanding the feet and working up to the point of release. (10:00 min +/-) 10:00 min we are adding steps into the delivery. I'm very detailed in my approach to pitching. after the session is over we would review the material and I would send the player home with an assignment and and check 1st thing at the next session if the player completed the assignment . I'm very patient with my players and do not give them more than they can handle at any one session, I work at the players pace to insure the player understands the material for that given session

I am really grateful that we found Coach John through this site. He was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He explained things to our young athlete in a way that was very clear and memorable so that he can use those tips to continue to practice at home. We look forward to continuing with his help to give our son the tools he needs to continue to play as long as he wants to

Coach John did a great job again. Starting to help my son a lot.

Great actionable advice.

Great pitching lesson today, Coach Miglio was very knowledgeable and informative. My 10yr old is looking forward to his next lesson and I’m excited to see the progression as we continue to work with coach Miglio.

Good first session. Good insight and quickly pointed out what needs to be corrected.

Coach John was up front and giving good information.

Coach John did a great job simplifying how to approach the learning aspect of the game. Since our lesson we have practiced everyday in our backyard using the 1,2,3 method. Coach John gave me some pointers on how to "play catch" and it took me in a direction to find some videos based on some simple comments he made and in less than a week my son and I are playing catch, he still has some work to do but we have seen vast improvement and he is excited for his next lesson.

John has been great my sons have really been happy with the coaching they are given. I highly recommend him and look forward to future sessions.

This coach is amazing , my son has gotten lessons from many but they didn’t even seem like lesson after this coach lesson you can learn so much in thirty min I believe he can make my son come along ways in baseball.

Coach John is a fantastic coach. My son had no experience going in and he is learning a lot and looks forward to attending his sessions on Sunday's. I have no doubt that with Coach John's guidance he will become a great baseball player.

Great coach and we look forward to our progression

My son's first session with coach John couldn't have been better! He took time to look at my sons form and explain what adjustments he would like to make and by the end of the session could already see a difference in contact and power. My son can't wait for his next session.

It’s only been 1 session. But when your teenage son has those habits and John was able to see them and start breaking them down and start correcting them immediately. My son has been willing to make the necessary changes to become that better player and is ready for his next session. That is enough for me.

Jack is learning so much!

Coach John is one heck of a coach, great first session. My son really got what John was trying to improve in his technique. Definitely recommend John as a coach and can't wait to schedule some more sessions in the near future.

Coach John has been amazing. He broke it all the way down to the very basics which made it all the more easier to understand and incorporate into our son's game. We recommend him highly to any individual!!

John was an excellent coach. Kids loved him and loves the way he teaches. The only issue i had was i thought i paid for an hour session being that i have 2 boys and it was squeezed into a 3min session. All in all it went great and can’t wait until our next session.

The first session with John was great. He explained the good things in my son's swing and then showed him some of the things he needs to work on. I will be booking many more sessions with John and can't wait to see the improvement my son makes.

I reached out to coach John to help my 11 year old with his pitching. My son has regressed dramatically. In just one session he improved dramatically. After the second session he had equal results. I can’t wait for hm to complete his third session and take the mound again. This has been the best baseball investment I’ve ever made.

Great one on one instruction. Noticed a few motions my son needed to correct to improve his throwing.

My son had his first session with Coach Miglio and I rate him a 10! He was very thorough on what my son needed work on and my most importantly my son enjoyed his session. I know my son will definitely benefit from coach Miglio. I think we have found our best fit. Both he and we as parents are looking forward to more sessions, 👍🏼thanks coach!

Coach Miglio was honest in our first session, and honesty can be fuel for motivation. A coaching style that teaches you the reasons for our fundamentals making them easier to fully understand their purpose. I look forward to continuing to improve under his coaching

Coach John was great. I love that he went over everything. Even better that he was a lefty as well as our son. Looking forward to more lessons.

Coach John is fantastic. I am Matt's uncle (live in Austin) that scheduled some lessons with John. Matt came away from his first session with a new purpose in life. He dominated during the 2016 baseball season (all district) but was somewhat discouraged in trying to get to the next level. One session with John and he is renewed and revived. John went over and above in working with Matt. John even called me after the session to update me. We are going to continue to work with Coach John and would definitely recommend him to other pitchers that are serious about getting to the next level!! Thank you Coach John!!

Sam

Coach John had an immediate impact on my son’s performance from both a mental and physical standpoint. Our time with coach John started with both my son and I answering a few questions about our expectations and coach John explained his expectations to my son. The actual lesson was great because each step of the way coach John explained what he wanted my son to do and why he wanted him to do it. For several days after the practice I asked my son to explain what he was taught and he was able to show me the positioning and explain to me why he was positioned a certain way. In our throwing sessions at home he has been able to correct himself when he makes mistakes. My son has a slight disability that does not allow him full use of his left arm and coach John was able to work around that speed bump. I would recommend Coach John to anyone wanting to improve their child’s performance and overall knowledge of baseball.

Best in San Antonio
John is a great teacher and motivator. I've had the opportunity to work with John on a couple of levels,, one as a uncle of one of his younger students, two as a coach of a mens baseball team and three as a student of Johns. On every level and every occasion he has been nothing but a pro. Highly recommend.
