More About Coach Jay
After my playing career I spent 3 seasons broadcasting Division 1 College Baseball for ESPN and Fox Sports! I then went on to coach my kids travel baseball team for 4 years! Im currently involved in doing private hitting lessons but I am also available for group lessons as well!!
I was named MVP of the Connie Mack World Series in 1991 after helping lead the Midland Redskins to a World Series title! That exposure helped lead me to a full scholarship at Georgia Tech! After a productive 3 years I was selected by the New York Mets in 1994 after helping lead Georgia Tech to their first ever College World Series appearance where we ended up losing out to Oklahoma in the Championship game! I had the good fortune of being a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award along with teammates Nomar Garciaparra and Jason Varitek! That season I led the country in RBI with 102 while batting .430 with 20 homers! As a rookie I was the starting CF for the New York Mets in the 2000 World Series in which we lost to the Yankees in 5 games! I have the distinction of being the only player to ever homer off of Mariano Rivera in a World Series Game! Finished 3rd in Rookie of the year voting that season! Went on to play 10 more season in the Majors finishing with a .280 career average and over 1000 hits and over 100 home runs!
I teach the fundamentals of the swing but am also very big on the mental approach to the game! Both will be taught and discussed during any sessions as the mental aspect of hitting isn't talked about enough! I believe anyone can learn to have a pretty good swing but it's what's between the ears and the approach to hitting that separate the greats! My rates do not include cage rental time if that is needed! Most cages charge around 40-50 an hour for cage rental in addition to my fee! You will be responsible for providing a place for the lessons! Frontier Park and Reynolds Middle School are free outdoor cage options! The only issue is it’s first come first serve and teams have first right during spring and fall ball until it is over! If you know or have access to any not listed in my places I’m definitely willing to use them as i try to help keep overall cost down! I live in Frisco and can travel up to 10-20 miles! Thank you!

Coach Payton, a former major-league baseball player, has been a fantastic coach for my nine-year-old, Griffin. He's incredibly kind and patient, and his guidance has made a real difference in Griffin's baseball skills. We're thrilled to have him as our coach!

Excellent coach! Really great teacher for my 8-year-old son. We learned very useful and practical elements for the swing, and we could see the results right away. Coach Jay dedication to the game is evident in every aspect of his coaching approach. He has extensive knowledge of baseball strategy and techniques. He's focus on the fine details that make a significant difference in a player's performance. He was able to adjust my child's (8 Years old) batting stance and swing on the first session. I look forward to booking Coach Jay again.
