More About Coach James

I currently coach the National Group at Arcadia Riptides where we have many swimmers who compete on the national level and even more that compete at the Junior Olympic Level. I also coached at Rose Bowl Aquatic Center, one of the largest and most respected teams in Age Group Swimming. I have also coached at numerous high schools in the San Gabriel Valley area of Southern California, in both swimming and water polo, and I have had numerous CIF finalist and a few Champions. I was also the coach for 6 years at the Altadena Town and Country Club

As an age grouper, I held the 2nd fastest time in the nation in the 100 breast. In high school, I won the Regional CIF championship meet for three consecutive years in the 100 breast and was twice honored as a High School All-American. I then earned a full-ride scholarship to Cal State LA, where I played water polo and swam, I also earned NCAA All-American Status.I have continued to be involved in swimming, competing in Masters Water Polo as well as open water competition.

The season plan is determined on where you start and expectations on where you want to end. Depending on the level, fundamentals may need to be taught, or emphasised, as conditioning with improper techniques only reinforces bad habits and limits growth. In short, a season plan is set out not just to get the most out of the current season, but to ensure growth in upcoming seasons as well.

Great swim coach! I would recommend him!

I've had two sessions so far with Jim. I was never a competitive swimmer as a kid, and now I'm starting to complete in triathlons as an adult, so I need all the help I can get! Jim offers direct but positive feedback, and importantly for me gives me analytical instruction that lets me really understand what and why he is asking me to do. Already after the second session I am seeing significant improvement. I look forward to continuing training with Jim!

Working with James in my swim session with him last weekend at the Rosebowl Aquatic on (Feb 9th) was a game changer. His wisdom, knowledge and friendly demeanor allowed me to feel really comfortable and his tips on stroke technique & catch was remarkable...as I immediately saw improvement. Being a age group triathlete, I truly enjoy the fact James has possess skills in both swimming pool and open water...which is beneficial to have as a coach. And I really enjoyed too, James hands on approach being in the water along with me and giving me valuable instruction. So I am looking forwards to continuing working with him.

Our first lesson with Coach James everything was great. Gave my son some great advice on correcting his mistakes. Working hard in the pool and we'll see coach inthe near future.

Coach James is really great for my son - he makes the lessons a lot of fun while still making him work! He is very patient and explains everything to my son repeatedly until he understands the drills they are working on. I really appreciate that he gets in the water with my son, which helps immensely. Grant is already starting to show improvement and is starting to implement what he learns in his lessons with Jim. My son looks forward to his lessons, and now my girls will also be taking lessons with him as well. Jim is also very friendly, and has a wealth of knowledge in both swimming and water polo.

Great coach!

My child has been taking private lessons from Coach Jim for nearly 2 years now and his stroke technique has improved along with his self-confidence. Thank you so much Coach, Jim, who always goes over and beyond to make the lesson successful.
Jim was my son's coach at Rose Bowl Aquatics. When my son aged up and was no longer in Jim's group, we continue to take private lessons with Jim. My son's swimming has improved tremendously, he is now one of the fastest in his age group and has near perfect technique. We found Jim to be highly motivational for my son's swimming and would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to greatly improve their swimming techniques. AD
