More About Coach James

I have experience coaching at the middle school, high school, club, and college level.
As an undergraduate student-athlete at Carthage College I worked the Nike sponsored summer camp we held on campus. I worked the camp for two years, many of the athlete were between the ages of 12-16.
My next coaching experience was the Summer and early Fall of 2016 with Lisle High School. I had the opportunity to learn from a 40 year coaching veteran while gaining valuable insight into the specifics of training high school athletes.
Through the academic year of 2016-17 I have been the acting head coach of the Carthage College running club. These were college students with 2017. little to no experience in running before working with me.
Was an assistant coach at Wisconsin Lutheran College, and assisted in all aspects of running an NCAA Division 3 team.
In July of 2019 I accepted the head cross country coaching position at Rockford University.
I am:
USATF Level 1 Certified.
USTFCCCA Distance Specialist Certified

I competed for 4 years on the Division 3 level for Carthage College.
I competed in 2 NCAA Regional Cross Country Meets.
Hold the 9th fastest 10k time in school history at Carthage
Team Captain.
10 CCIW conference appearances.
Mile- 4:33 (2018)
3k- 9:17 (2017)
5k- 15:44 (2019)
10k- 32:54 (2017)
10 mile- 58:53 (2018)
Half Marathon- 1:14:35 (2020)

The biggest thing that distance runners need to focus on is injury proofing themselves. Injury proofing drills and exercise also have the added benefit of strengthening and increasing efficiency, which makes running a lot more enjoyable and allows the athlete to rise to meet any challenge. For a distance runner, they can expect close to 50% of the session time doing drills, core, and plyo-type exercises.

Client Reviews

James has been reliable, organized, friendly, and easy to work with. From my sons perspective he’s been a great coach and really works with him the full time. Would highly recommend James.

First session my daughter really enjoyed the workout, felt he targeted weaknesses and a challenging workout. Really like his coaching philosophy, so far.
