More About Coach Tony
On three separate occasions, I have taken programs from the cellar and made the student/athletes better. I have been coaching/training since 1989 and have placed numerous players in college.
2019 to 2025 Rancho Cucamonga High School, Rancho Cucamonga, CA. - Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach - Helped lead the girl’s varsity basketball team at Rancho Cucamonga High School to their first ever CIF Semi Final Appearance (2024) and first ever CIF Finals Game Appearance (2024), as well as the #1 Ranking in the CIF 4AA Division.
2010 to 2012 Jurupa Hills High School, Fontana, CA - Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach 1st Year School in Existence – 2010 (New) - Right before the start of the 2013 season, I had to stop coaching due to health reasons within the family and job relocation. However, the team I had from the start and trained to that point before departing went on to win the league championship, as you can see from the banner posted on this site. We went from getting blown out the 1st year in existence to the point of being champions.
2008 to 2010 Advantage Basketball Camps Assist with various basketball camps in California Los Angeles Sparks Mini Camp (Thru Advantage Basketball Camp) 7/6/2008 – Staples Center
2007 to 2008 Etiwanda High School, Etiwanda, CA - Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Helped obtain another League Title CIF Semi-Finalist when people predicted 2nd to last place in league
2005 to 2007 Alta Loma High School, Alta Loma, CA Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach 1st year (2005-2006) beat the previous four coach’s records 2nd year (2006-2007) won 11 games (most since 1996) – One game short of CIF playoffs
1996 to 1997 Ayala High School, Chino Hills, CA Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Helped team obtained first league title
1995 to 1996 Chaffey High School, Ontario, CA Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach - 1996 Inland Valley Girls Basketball Coach of the Year Award - Team finished 0-26 before I took over. Took that same team to CIF Playoffs in my first year as head varsity coach having played only 16 games for the season due to administrator errors, who also figured they would come in last place and didn't bother to schedule more games. That didn't matter because we still went to the playoffs from hard work and dedication by finishing 3rd in league. A team is a reflection of their coach.
1994 to 1995 Chaffey High School, Ontario, CA Head JV Girls Basketball Coach Best record in school Beat Ayala’s JV with same Chaffey team that got beat 86-6 previous year
1993 to 1994 Ayala High School, Chino Hills, CA Head JV Girls Basketball Coach 18-6 (1st year record that was a record for 5 years) Beat Chaffey’s JV 86-6
1991 to 1993 Ganesha High School, Pomona, CA Volunteer Varsity Boys Assistant Coach CIF Semi-Final Appearance
I received the 1996 Inland Valley Girls Basketball Coach of the Year Honors in my 1st year as a varsity head coaching after taking over a team that finished 0-26 before I took over and took that same team to the CIF playoffs.
What you need is a REAL basketball skill development program both physically and mentally. You need real workouts that bring new challenges every day and that will push you from start to finish. You need to work on game situations. You also need to work on drills game speed and nothing less.
The hard work stems from continuous conditioning drills during pre-season, fundamental drills, etc.
My goal is to teach the necessary fundamentals in the game of basketball to youths of all ages in a comfortable, safe environment through repetition and positive reinforcement up until they are placed with a fundamentally sound travel team that can take over and continue teaching and not just take their money. Many youths are lacking the fundamentals to succeed on and off the court and I would like to help all youths to become as successful as possible.
I strongly believe beginners should develop a love and passion for the game of basketball to be successful, and a confidence in themselves so they will continue to pursue the game at higher levels. The student/athletes will have a lot of fun, but I will also help them reach their potential thru hard work and dedication.
What you need is a REAL basketball skill development program both physically and mentally. You need real workouts that bring new challenges every day and that will push you from start to finish. You need to work on game situations. You also need to work on drills game speed and nothing less. You practice less than game speed, then you will play less than game speed.

Coach Blakley has been very professional. Great communication and my son has enjoyed the sessions. He’ll make them work, but it should improve their skill set.

We really liked working with Coach Tony! His drills were challenging and simulated game situations very well. He also struck a good balance between building strengths and developing areas of growth. We look forward to more sessions in the future.

My granddaughters had their first training session with Coach Tony and it went really well. He kept them engaged throughout the whole session and provided great training. We are looking forward to the next session as I can see that they did benefit from the training. I asked Aubree what she thought about the training and she said, "It was tiring, but I think it will help." Well, I know the training is going to make them better players! Coach Tony takes the training seriously and I would recommend him as a coach to others wanting to do better on the court.

My son had his 1st training session with Tony, hes seems very knowledgeable & passionate about what he does....both my son & I liked the session and will be booking more. On my limited exposure so far, my intuition says Tony is a great coach and I look forward to more sessions.

I have no words to express my gratitude to Coach Tony. His response time was timely. His attentive and readiness to help my son was very impressive. My son’s first training was beyond amazing and he immediately recognized what needed to be done to enhance the growth in my son. I look forward to next few years working with Coach Tony. It is great to finally take the back seat and letting Coach Tony have control of my son and his desire to move forward.

Coach Blakley is a really good coach. He gave me really good tips on how to improve my game. And the drills he had me do were difficult but I know they will help me become a better player.
Michelle (CoachUp client)
First session with coach Blakey, my son & I were very impressed with his passionate, training ability. He’s knowledgeable and you can tell he takes personal interest in each player. Helping with their strengths and weakness. My son finished this session with such confidence knowing that if he continues to work with coach B he’ll learn/develop great skills with him.
We’re booking more session with Blakey and I’d definitely recommend him.

My daughter had her first lesson with coach James this weekend and it was more than we expected. Coach was really professional and put my daughter thru a real workout. His drills and technique were great. My daughter can't wait until her next work out.
Geoffrey (CoachUp client)
Coach James is a great coach. He works with great fortitude to modify a players skills and correct existing bad habits the athlete may display. Coach James works with my son and has given him the instructions where it was easy for him to understand and execute. Coach James is a great instructor. We appreciate his professionalism.
Melinda (CoachUp client)
Coach James was a pleasure to work with. He was professional, outgoing, and thorough. He took the time to research my son and his high school and my sons stats before we even met so he knew exactly what level my son was playing at. He asked about his strengths and weaknesses and what my son was hoping to gain from his training. He took time to speak with me after our first session and let me know what he saw and what he thinks my son needs to work on and what kind of training we would continue to do with him. He is extremely knowledgeable and you can tell he really takes a personal interest in his athletes. I would highly recommend Coach James and can’t wait to have my son work with him again.
Jairo (CoachUp client)

Benicia Rockwell (Parent) (Testimonial)
Thank you so much for your time and valuable tips you have given my son, Chandler Rockwell. His high school basketball team just completed their season in the first round of the CIF play-offs with an unfortunate loss to Mitty which took them out of contention for the State Championship bracket. The guidance from your program and your passion for your players is evident in the way you interact and train. At the beginning of his basketball season, my son’s confidence was the lowest it has ever been and his passion for the sport was rapidly diminishing. You were able to motivate him and groom him for one of the best seasons and compliments he as a basketball player has received. One of the members of the coaching staff told me that they were very impressed with Chandler and the improvements he made. He also said that his game improved so much in the last half of his season that he was a key contributor to the team’s post season accomplishments. (Chandler after working hard all season earned a starting position.) Thank you so much for giving all that you do to your players both on and off the court, I know at times this can be a thankless role/position, but I know that you do not do this for the “recognition”, but for the growth of your players. You truly are a dedicated and inspiration that impact the youth in such a positive way. Your contributions will not be forgotten.
Napoleon Rhodes (Parent) (Testimonial)
I had the opportunity to work with Coach Blakley, as he coached my daughter, Page Rhodes, as she attended Etiwanda High School. Coach Blakley was always motivational, well prepared and fully participated in the training not just with words but in my opinion, in action. Coach Blakley could be trusted to run the workouts/practices with great zeal and intensity. Having his style of coaching is what aided the program to be as successful as it was not just having the talent. It is my opinion coaching is much more than x’s and o’s; it is also life skills building and Coach Blakley exemplified that trait well. Coach Blakley responds to the call of leadership, his remarks and comments are well received by his team. It is true Coach Blakley has set himself apart in my eyes by his personal hard work, but Coach Blakley also earned much respect and admiration from the parents with his demonstrated ability to foster growth in the young ladies while demanding the older players to mentor the younger players. This is a trait not seen at the high school level and it takes much courage to lead by example the way he did.
Britney Gonzalez (Testimonial)
Coach Blakley definitely stands out as my favorite coach and gets my high recommendation as a mentor and a motivator. He has a unique ability to recognize and explain key thoughts through his eyes. He pushed me as well as others to a higher expectation in a physical and mental standpoint. He really inspired me and motivated me to become a greater knowledgeable player. Coach isn’t just challenging, but also patient and understanding. Blakley’s coaching is definitely valuable. As a coach he will always have a positive impact on my life pertaining to leadership and my goals to perform at a higher level. Just recently I won MVP for League and 1st team All-CIF and All County and I know if it weren’t for Coach Blakley, none of this would have been possible.
Tamara McDonald (Testimonial)
Coach is a student of the game, a teacher to those that share his passion. Your child would leave every lesson with a new understanding for the game and life in general.
Greg Dinneen (Associate Athletic Director- Concordia Univ) (Testimonial)
His high school teams have played in both our fall league and summer tournaments here at Concordia University. I have found Coach Blakley to be a very good teacher of the fundamentals and his teams always are ready to play and give great effort. He is a positive motivator and his style is one I know a lot of players would appreciate.
Mel Sims (Retired Coach-CIF Championships) (Testimonial)
He is always prepared and excels in relaying technique information to student athletes. He has a great understanding of people and gets along well with peers and superiors alike. Mr. Blakely always takes the initiative in all tasks he under takes. He demonstrated tremendous self-initiative and un-parallel pride in his work. In all my 35 years of teaching and coaching I have never seen any person with more self-initiative and drive than Mr. Blakely. He served as Assistant Director of Score Basketball camp. He did an excellent job of organization. He demonstrates a high personal understanding of skills and techniques involved in the teaching of basketball principles. His communicative skills are absolutely second to none. He possesses outstanding analytical skills and one of the most gifted individuals that I have had the pleasure of observing and knowing. His management and organizational skills are superb. His personality is second to none and his integrity is beyond reproach. He enthusiastically approaches each teaching day.
