More About Coach Jake

I begin my training career as a student manager for the San Diego State men's basketball team. I worked with Hall of Fame Coach Steve Fisher and Nba finals MVP Kawhi Leonard.

Since then, I’ve trained all ages and skill levels ranging from 5 years old to current NBA players.

At heart I am a teacher with a Masters degree in Education and have taught and lead in Bay area education non-profits for over a decade. I wrote my thesis, and still believe that sports can empower us to be more radiant/flourishing individuals like few things else.

I have trained internationally including India with the non-profit Hi5.

I have an Heroic Coach certification focusing on breath work, nutrition, meditation, mindset, and goal setting that can be a game changer for increasing skills on and off the court.

I am a certified Mental Performance Coach and include sports psychology/ mental mindset for children and adults.

I have trained all ages elementary, middle, high school, adults looking to start to learn the game or those wanting to improve their pick up game, boys/girls and men/women.

It is my belief to make the game of basketball challenging, competitive, but also fun when training. When we are training, we will of course focus on skill acquisition, mental tools, and also I will provide practice drills and habits so you can work on your game at home. I absolutely love skilled development and personal development so please reach out with any questions.

I played High School Varsity basketball. In college I went to San Diego State, while working with the SDSU Men's team I was able to practice and travel with the team around the country. I learned so many valuable coaching approaches when working with the Hall of Fame coaching staff and top athletes. Now I love to continue to work in the Bay Area to help other athletes achieve their goals. I have coached mainly in the Fremont, San Jose, and Palo Alto area.

Every athlete has a vision of the player they want to become and the skills they currently have. My expertise is filling in that gap. My number one goal is to listen to the athlete on their thoughts/needs, ask the right questions to get the athlete empowered in who they can become, and design the training with the right drills to keep the athlete motivated training in a fun/challenging flow.

Each training will be individualized for the specific strengths/weakness for the client and will be be provided suggested practice so they can continue to train on their own. This can be more than just basketball training but finding new ways to set goals and keep the client accountable to who they want to become. All you need is a hoop, a ball, a journal, and an open mind to get better.

Best coach in Bay Area !!

Writing this review as a 30-year-old, mostly pickup/casual player looking to improve his game.

I booked a shooting session with Coach Jake, and I saw immediate improvement after just one hour. He was able to analyze my shot and offer small tweaks to my mechanics that helped me feel way more comfortable shooting the ball. I definitely plan on working with him more to improve the other facets of my game and highly recommend him to anyone else at any level!

Perfect coach

Awesome Coach!! He responded quickly to my messages and answered all my questions thoroughly. My grandson had a great session with coach Jake today. He enjoyed the training and all the positive advice, tips, and knowledge coach instructed him on. I would highly recommend him, thanks coach!

Coach Jake was great! The ball machine was a great help. He had a lot of great tips for my son and was very encouraging.

Coach Jake was great. My son really enjoyed the 1:1 training.

I'm personally 3 sessions in so far, and my take as a 28 year old adult is that Coach Jake is great in many ways. Coach Jake has plenty of good qualities as a Trainer/Coach.
For one, he patiently hears you out whether it's questions, concerns, or if you're winded & need a brief breather.
For two, he gives great pointers(tips/advice), is patient again in both your learning curve and adjustments, and has quite some basketball knowledge.
And Three, Coach Jake seems good so far at paying attention to your movements/habits and gives good analysis/feedback each session.

If you are truly looking to improve your basketball skills, or even getting in shape, this would be a great starting point for anyone looking for a Trainer/Coach. Why pass up on an opportunity sitting in front of you, with a legit Coach in Coach Jake.
Thanks, best of luck to all of you that are possibly interested.

Coach Jake was great. He was very responsive to any correspondence within minutes and was even flexible to meet up during the holidays. Scheduled a session for my 6 year old son who is a beginner at the game. He was able to tailor the session to my 6 year olds abilities. Most importantly he has a wonderful personality and when your 6 year old asks you when his next session will be just minutes after his first session - that says it all.

Coach Jake is AWESOME! Jake is truly encouraging and patient. He would tailor your training based on your personal goals(shooting, dribbling, enhancing athletic performance and you name it). Jake also generously share all the videos he thinks could be useful for my daily practice with me. Both my training partner and I feel HONORED to have Jake as our coach.

Individual training is good, but group training of two is even better. At age 24, I believe I'll make real progress on basketball with Jake in the future.

Coach Jake did a great job with my son. Coach Jake was flexible to meet us at near by park. I saw my son more enthused about the game and he is looking forward to the next session. I got a follow up from coach Jake with training videos as well.

Coach Jake is a great coach because of several factors. He responded very quickly to my messages and we quickly agreed upon a time and place for our session. He arrived on time for the session and was prepared with a lot of equipment, thus proving he is a very trustworthy coach. Coach Jake will ask you on what you want to improve and is very knowledgeable on whatever you ask him. He is also very flexible in demonstrating drills again, answering questions, and allowing rest. He notices little details and flaws in whatever drills you may do and helps you correct them. He is always encouraging and supportive but he will challenge you. He's also an all-around friendly person. I would recommend Coach Jake to anyone. Beginners learning to play, or even college level athletes will all learn something from Coach Jake.

Great session, helped me work on skills that I wanted improvement on. I would recommend him as coach for all ages.

Coach Jake has already helped me make an impact on my game (I am regularly beating my husband one on one now). He first asked me what areas I wanted to improve, and has worked on not only what needs improvement, but also refining my strengths and how to deal with specific game situations so I can be more crafty. Having a coach like Coach Jake can be the crucial difference between going from good to great in a short amount of time. There's no replacement for simply putting in the work, but having someone give you live feedback on adjustments and work with you on drills that improve your muscle memory, instincts and creativity, means you are working smarter as you work harder. THAT is the difference between being good and great.

Great coach! Very knowledgeable and works well with kids. Taught my son some great drills that he can continue to practice off season.

Coach Jake is pretty awesome. He focuses on all aspects of the game. He focuses on warmups, great drills to bring up the focus and gives great positive feedback through out the session. I am impressed with variety in his coaching drills. Certainly keeps our sessions quite fun for our kid.

Coach Jake was highly recommended and we were not disappointed! Not only was he professional and knowledgeable, he was very personable and immediately had great rapport with my son. After the first session, I asked my son how it went and he stated, "Coach Jake is so COOL!" My son is so excited to be training with Coach Jake and can't wait until his next session! He plays in an AAU league and one of his coaches has already noticed a change in how he plays! Thank you Coach Jake for being an AWESOME Coach!

Coach Jake is an awesome coach! After my son's first session with him, I saw an improvement right away. Coach Jake is a good mentor, knowledgeable, patient, and has good attitude. He also sends great videos to us via email on what my son can practice on in between sessions. My son said that he feels more confident and is learning a lot from coach Jake! We look forward for more sessions with him.

My son had his first lesson with coach Jake, and he loved it. Jake is awesome coach, he has great attitude and skills. He worked with my son on basketball shooting, handling, and moves. He also sent me the information and pictures regarding what he can work on by himself between the sessions. In addition, coach Jake is very responsive, and easy to schedule with. I am looking forward to continuing sessions with him.

Coach Jake is great. He has improved my son a lot. From shooting to learning how to shift his weight. It is absolutely stunning.

Coach Jake is a great coach. After one session, he helped me work on my shooting, ball handling, and moves/attacking the basketball. Willing to go the extra mile and send me emails of what I can work on by myself. I definitely recommend him if you're looking to take the next step toward becoming a better player.

Coach Jake taught me post moves and helped me get in great shape. With his help I made my middle school team!
Coach Jake taught me to trust myself and gave me confidence to shoot the ball. I am now a starter on my girls team!
