I have been teaching swim lessons since 2003. My clients range from children to adults, non swimmers to advance triathletes. My expertise in bio-mechanics and hydrodynamics based on my degree allows me to identified the best way of improve your swimming. I coach in private or public pools. I also videotape your stroke both above and below the water and assess your body position, balance, core rotation, arm recovery, breathing, and kick. I understand that water is not the natural environment for the human body but my goal is to make it feel as comfortable as the land.

I have been teaching swimming for over 14 years. I am certified by the American Red Cross as a Water Safety Instructor.
I was a competitive swimmer for 27 years.

No matter what level swimmer you are, there's always room to improve your swimming skills.
My goal is to help all my clients to achieve greater confidence and skill in the water.

I am an adult beginner swimmer who was looking to perfect my freestyle stroke in order to get faster and be able to participate in activities like triathlons and masters swim. Ilya was everything I needed in a swim instructor: - Never late to our agreed-upon class - Is very flexible to my unpredictable schedule...and still never late - Very focused and analytic of my strokes, to the point he recorded with an ipad to show me in slow motion exactly what I was doing wrong - Broke down the different elements of the stroke one piece at a time so I understood what to do. - Customized technique corrections to where I can understand them (e.g. "imagine bringing your arm closer to your head," to which my response was "oohhhh I get it now.) As a result, my timed freestyle strokes have dramatically decreased in time. Thank you, Ilya!
Ilya is a fantastic swimming coach. He is very patient, yet strict at making sure the kids learn the right swimming technique from the beginning. He did an amazing job helping my 5-year old son overcome his serious fear of water on his face, which prevented him from even attempting to learn to swim - my son is now swimming on his back, gliding with his face in the water, and even happily diving within just a few lessons. I highly recommend Ilya, especially for kids that need extra encouragement while learning to swim.
Ilya did a fantastic job turning my 6 and 8 year old sons into solid swimmers. Both of them have been swimming for years and have had many swim instructors, but not until this summer with Ilya did they start to really develop their stroke technique.
