More About Coach Ian

I'm a USATF Level 2 Certified and Strength & Conditioning Certified coach specializing in Jumps, Hurdles, Sprints, Decathletes and Heptathletes, speed and agility. I've been coaching for 16 years with two NAIA National Champions, two NAIA Nationals 2nd place finishers, a male Decathlete / Heptathlete who is a 7-time All-American, a 4-time All-American Women's High Jumper, three athletes earning 13 All-American Athlete honors in total. I've also coached three Junior College Decathletes to a 3rd place finish at the California State Champs and a two-time Runner Up for CIF Boys High Jump at the State Championships. I've been blessed to help break multiple school records, conference champs and State Finalists at the high school and collegiate levels. I've also worked with numerous NFL athletes and NFL Combine Participants.

I am a Cal State Fullerton Scholar Athlete Alumni, and have one of the top-3 marks for Men's Triple Jump. While at CSUF, I trained under the current Long Jump World Record holder, Mike Powell. I placed 3rd and 2nd in the Big West Conference for Men's Triple Jump in 2002 and 2003, respectively, as well as NCAA West Regional Qualifier. After I graduated, I continued to compete and won the USATF West Region for Men's Triple Jump in 2005.

First session usually consists of a functional movement and athleticism assessment to identify each athlete's strengths and areas that needs improvement. Depending on the athlete's goals as well as the time of year (pre-season or in-season training) will determine how general or specific each training session will be. A typical session will include a dynamic warmup, speed or explosive work or technique work, joint and tendon / ligament training, flexibility and stability exercises and a cool down. Special considerations and adjustments are made for youth and high school athletes who also play / train for multiple sports or on a club team so that they are not over training.

Client Reviews

Coach Ian was fantastic. He took his time with a very inexperienced athlete, and by then end of the session my son said he learned more in one day than he did during his entire season last year. We plan to book more session with Coach Ian.

Coach Ian was great with my boys. He took time to explain to them the different drills and techniques and how it affects their form and ultimately the outcome. We’d definitely will book Coach Ian again. Thank you!

Had a terrific session with Coach Ian. He was really patient and provided very helpful feedback. Even though it was our first session with him, he was able to provide specific pointers and used good drills to help my son improve. He also answered all my son’s questions which made him very happy. Will definitely be reaching out to Coach Ian for more sessions in the future.

Coach Ian was awesome! He really helped me focus on the small details and technical skills to improve my speed. He is able to evaluate and quickly give you ways to improve and give you things to continually work on. Very professional.

I appreciate Coach Ian getting to know my son, engaging with him in a way that made dialogue very easy. Coach gave my son a number of stretching exercises to avoid injuring his recently strained hamstring. He also provided my son with easy instructions to tweak his mechanics, (hopefully) allowing him to build better habits that will improve his results.

5 stars!

Coach Ian is Great. His attention to detail will have my son a top recruit in this region for Track & Field. I cant wait to see the results of his training this coming season.

Coach Ian took on training my son for 3 consecutive days with complete motivation and personal attention. His wealth of knowledge and experience will translate to my son applying all of it to his practices and to his meets. His expertise in Long Jump, Triple Jump, and Sprinting is what we focused on for my son. His flexibility for our schedule was very helpful in my stay for an out of area drive for the 3 days. Coach Ian talked about his past experiences, reviewed my son's videos, went over technique for each event, and trouble shot each of his events to make him better.

We had a great session with Coach Ian!! He responds quickly when you contact him. My husband and daughter really liked him and he is very knowledgeable and professional. She learned a lot from his training session.

Great job!

Coach Ian has been amazing and coaxing my teen back from her days as a high performing sprinter and hurdler. He's been patient and ever so encouraging. We are looking forward to meeting him in person. It's all about bringing the best out of someone and he has that gift in spades. It's our blessing to work with him. My daughter remarked that had we chosen a coach who was all about times, winning and competition she would have literally gone the other way and be resistant to the whole process. She is now motivated and inspired to improve. So yes, the "fit" is right. Thank you!

Great communication between coach and parents, highly recommended.

Coach Ian immediately recognized ways to help my 11-year old son improve his running for a variety of sports. I liked the way he assessed all aspects of his form and worked on a plan to for further improvement.

Coach Ian is awesome! My daughter, a senior in high school and multi-event track athlete has made great progress working with Ian. He is meticulous with his training, positive, and relates well to young athletes. As a parent, I appreciate his professionalism. He communicates promptly and clearly and is always on time, ready to go. We definitely hit the jackpot when we found Coach Ian on CoachUp!

My favorite jump coach by far!! You have been great this year in helping our team! Thank you for stepping up and teaching drills, over speed and of course jumps.
I appreciate all the time and effort you put into this team and thank you so much for seeing my potential in long jump.
Thanks Coach for being a good role model and teaching me a few things about track and field that have drastically helped my approach to power, speed and efficiency.
Dear Coach Jennings, I can't thank you enough for everything that you have done for me in the past two years. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have been where I am today. You have been there for me on and off the track. You have been both a track coach and a life coach for me. You taught me to never give up on anything that I want to do, you taught me that it's okay to make mistakes because I only learn from them. You taught me how to be a good athlete and a good person, and most importantly you taught me to believe in myself. You believed in me no matter what and I appreciate you for that more than you know.
