More About Coach Heidi

I am a runner, triathlete, personal trainer, boot camp instructor and mother of three young children. I know what it is like to balance family, work and fitness. I am passionate about running because my mother was a runner too and she inspired me to push myself further than I ever thought possible. I want to share my love of running with other mothers so we can be an inspiration to our own children. I have volunteered as a run coach for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training. I enjoyed watching new runners celebrate as they crossed their first finish line after raising thousands of dollars to help fund cancer research. I am also a Road Runner's Club of America (RRCA) certified running coach and have been coaching runners since 2013. Last year I volunteered to organize and coach a running club for students in grades K-5. I have worked with runners of all abilities and I want to help you reach your own personal running goals regardless of your hectic schedule!

I have been a consistent runner for over 12 years. I actually started taking running seriously right after having my first child. It was the perfect way to lose the baby weight! It was difficult to get started and stay motivated, but I can’t say that I regret one single run! I started with a few 5k’s and then progressed to half marathons. Eventually I knew it was time to defeat the longer distance marathon. I kept yearning for more so I tried out the half ironman distance triathlon and recently finished my first 50 mile ultra marathon. I have learned a lot from the other runners and coaches I met along the way.

Before we begin the first session, we would chat over the phone (or possibly meet up at a local coffee shop) to discuss your fitness background and to establish your personal running goals.
Then we would create a training plan to fit your individual needs. Sessions may include (but are not limited to) coach-led runs, speed drills, hill workouts, long distance runs, gear selection or personal training. It all depends on what you want to gain out of this experience. I will provide detailed training plans if you decide on a race goal. I am able to provide support via e-mail, phone or in-person.

Coach Heidi helped my daughter to prepare for the physical fitness run required for the Coast Guard!! When she started, my daughter could barely run the mile an a half required in 16 minutes, it takes 15 mins and 25 seconds to pass. She can now run it in 12 mins and 45 seconds !!! Thanks Heidi, you have helped her change her whole life.

I am so glad I chose Heidi as my first ever running coach! She promptly contacted me to set up a time and place to meet, to go over goals/expectations from coaching, and to evaluate how I run. These coaching sessions have been extremely informative and encouraging. Not only does she provide an objective form of accountability through my detailed post-session summaries, but she also provides the right amount of push and positivity during training so I feel challenged and notice improvement during the rest of the week. I would highly recommend working with Heidi to achieve your running goals! I am very excited to see how my second marathon experience turns out since working with her!

A true professional! After being rejected by another coach on CoachUp, Coach Heidi approached me extending her services. Even before I booked with her she was open to answering any questions that I may have had for her. Once I paid for my session, she was able to meet with me right away and also thoroughly researched trails where we could get started. Though I was hesitant to meet with her after a long day at work, Coach Heidi did not overwhelm me too soon. She made sure to investigate my background training and to determine where I should start based off of my previous experience as a runner. I could not have been blessed with a better trainer. Her expertise shined bright and she was very patient with me which in my opinion is an important factor in choosing a trainer. She treated me as if she believed in me before I even started and I know that with her guidance that I will quickly meet my running goals. Thanks again Heidi!

I have had some people ask me; do you need a running coach to race? I am sure this answer is different for each person because we all have different goals. Some people want to start running but have problems with injuries. Some people need motivation and guidance to help prepare them for half and full marathons. Some people are completely new to running and don’t have any goals. Sure anyone can pull up a training schedule on the internet. What are you running…half, full, ultra? Whichever one, you can find a training schedule for that goal. Tell me though; when you are injured does that training schedule adjust to your needs? When you see other runners logging in more miles or fewer miles than you and you lose your confidence; does that training schedule assure your ability? When you are feeling lazy and not wanting to give your runs 100% or perhaps you want to sneak in a extra rest day; does that training schedule re-motivate you and at times stalk you to ensure you have returned to your previous state of mind? Heidi knows when I am tired and she always finds a way to motivate me. Whether that is dancing at the top of the hill in her reflective gear or making train sounds as I climb hills; she always succeeds at making sure I forget that temporary misery that can accompany those though runs. Thanks to Heidi I made it through my first ultra and pushed on to training for the next. I am 100% positive I wouldn’t be successful in this journey without her. So Heidi, thank you for the numerous roles you have played during this journey; being my coach, my doctor, my motivator, my teacher, and my friend.
If it weren't for Heidi's energy, determination and belief in me, I never would have been able to complete my first half marathon. I began as a walker at the age of 53. I can recall finding it difficult to merely walk up a ramp! Pretty soon, with our weekly Tuesday evening bridge mileage and Saturday morning training runs with Team in Training, I was not only able to run up that ramp but I felt empowered to finally call myself a runner! Heidi makes it look so easy because being an athlete is in her blood. Her mother was a marathoner. However, she knows how difficult it is for a novice like me! Her patience level is extreme and she made me a hero within myself! I miss running alongside her because she always provided the drive and the push I needed to complete my run. I even injured my right knee during one Saturday morning run and she ran back to the start, hopped in her car and picked me up! She is the best coach, runner, athlete, woman I have had the pleasure of being led by
