More About Coach Hanna
I’m a former Division I track and field athlete with a strong foundation in sprint mechanics, strength development, and athletic performance. My experience competing at a high level has shaped my coaching approach, with an emphasis on proper technique, speed development, and building well-rounded athletes.
During my time in Michigan, I worked with both youth and high school athletes, helping them improve sprint mechanics, overall conditioning, and strength. I’ve coached athletes at varying skill levels—from beginners learning foundational movement patterns to more experienced athletes looking to refine technique and enhance performance.
My coaching style focuses on developing efficient movement, injury prevention, and building a strong athletic base that translates both on and off the track. I prioritize teaching athletes why behind each drill and workout, so they can grow in confidence as well as performance.
I’m passionate about helping athletes reach their full potential by combining structured training, attention to detail, and a supportive coaching environment.
I competed as a Division I track and field athlete in the Big Ten Conference, where I specialized in sprint events and trained at a highly competitive level. During my collegiate career, I earned two Big Ten Championship titles across both indoor and outdoor seasons, demonstrating a high level of performance, consistency, and dedication to the sport.
Competing at the Division I level required balancing an intensive training schedule of over 20 hours per week alongside full academic responsibilities. This experience strengthened my discipline, time management, and ability to perform under pressure in both athletic and academic environments.
In addition to my athletic performance, I took on a leadership role within my team by mentoring incoming freshman student-athletes. I provided guidance on training expectations, competition preparation, and balancing academics with athletics, helping to create a supportive and high-performing team culture.
My experience competing and succeeding at the collegiate level has given me firsthand insight into elite training systems, race strategy, and the mindset required to perform at a high level.
A typical session with me is structured, purposeful, and tailored to the athlete’s experience level and goals. Whether I’m working with youth, high school athletes, or developing sprinters, I focus on building a strong technical foundation first, then layering in speed, strength, and conditioning.
We start each session with a dynamic warm-up and mobility work to prepare the body and reduce injury risk. From there, we move into sprint mechanics and drill work, which is a major focus of my coaching. This includes drills such as A-skips, B-skips, high knees, and acceleration-based movements to improve stride efficiency, posture, and overall running form.
Once mechanics are established, we transition into the main workout. Depending on the day, this may include:
* Acceleration and max velocity work
* Sprint intervals and conditioning
* Plyometric exercises to develop power and explosiveness
* Strength-based movements to support speed and injury prevention
I emphasize quality over quantity, making sure athletes understand proper technique and execution rather than just completing reps. Throughout the session, I provide real-time feedback, corrections, and encouragement to help athletes improve each rep.
We finish with a cooldown and recovery work, along with a quick recap so athletes understand what they worked on and how it connects to their overall development.
My goal in every session is to not only improve performance, but to help athletes become more confident, disciplined, and knowledgeable about their training.
