More About Coach George

I have been coaching, training and rehabilitating athletes across sports since 2009. From 2012-2017 I coached and managed the Austin Track Club, preparing semi-pro mid-distance runners to compete around the US and Canada, including at national championships. I also trained two deaf sprinters for international competition, who brought home four medals for Team USA in the 2013 Deaflympics. Away from the track, I have developed movement and rehabilitation programs for ultra-marathoners, Division I soccer players and recreational / age group road runners.

I started running well after my window to be fast had already closed, so I jumped right into half-marathons and started adding distance from there. I hit my stride (eye roll) upon moving to Texas, setting my marathon PR of 2:48.27 (Dallas White Rock Marathon, 2011); finishing 8th overall and 1st in my age group at the 2013 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon; and 5th overall at the 2013 Shiner Half-Marathon. I have also completed one 50K at The North Face Endurance Challenge in northern Virginia in 2011, finishing 15th overall despite having never run anything longer than a half-marathon at that point. Once I started coaching full-time I no longer had the best part of the day to train (do you like starting your tempo runs after 11am in Texas?), but recently took 2nd in my age group (35-39, 18:41) at the We Are Houston 5K as part of the Houston Marathon weekend, my first race in about 5 years.

My first overall principle of coaching is that you can't move fast if you don't move well. My first principle specifically for running is that it is as much a skill sport as anything involving a stick or ball. Movement work is as much a part of the warm-up and cool-down as the easy-pace running, so when you are running during the session you are moving as close to perfectly for that day as you can. The movement work includes a lot of body-weight lunges, squats, etc. and we may bring in resistance bands, med balls and body bars, and - if possible / desired - we complement it with weight training. It may sound like a lot, but by connecting it with the running we have a smooth, efficient (time and biomechanically) and effective session that prepares the athlete for what he or she does on the other days of the week.

12 year old XC athlete son really enjoys working with George. He looks forward to the weekly sessions.

Friendly coach and a knowledgeable person. I enjoyed my session with George and I would highly recommend him

Excellent technique modification and teaching. Helps runners learn to identify their own technique issues and make the changes automatically so they don’t have to think about it while racing. I like that he works out with me and doesn’t just critique.

One session in and I already learned a lot, I immediately booked another session, I feel a lot more confident than I previously did and the techniques I’m learning is definitely a huge help, I would highly recommend Coach George to anyone .

George is a phenomenal coach that I couldn’t recommend more highly. His professional and friendly demeanor not only means that he has a wealth of knowledge and experience to help you reach your goals, but is a pleasure to work with.
I reached out to George to help me prepare for my physical fitness test (PFT) with a law enforcement agency. The test consisted of a 300 meter sprint and 1.5 mile run. Prior to meeting with George I had been training for 10 months on my own, but my progress was flat. My best times were:

• 300 Meter—54 seconds
• 1.5 mile – 13 minutes
Both results would have been considered fails on my PFT.

However, after working with George for 6 months, I finally saw progress, as my times improved to:
• 300 Meter—50.8 seconds
• 1.5 mile—11 minutes, 15 seconds
Both times were solid passes.

I really couldn’t have done it on my own. So if you’re looking an approachable and knowledge running coach, you couldn’t do any better.

The first session with George was great! I like his approach towards coaching and improving your running.

Helped me a lot great coach !
