More About Coach Fernando

I have been working as a swimming coach since 2003. During that time I had the opportunity to work for various swimming clubs, both at the local community level (Flaherty Dolphins 2003-2011) and at the private level (Charles River Aquatics 2011-2012, Crimson Aquatics 2013-2014. I had the privilege to work alongside some great coaches (Joshua Stern, Tad Sayce, Richard Mojica, Nick Baker, Chris Sheppard and Adriana Marmolejo-Shack). Working and learning from those individuals is what has allowed me to grow as a coach.

I have worked with swimmers of all ages, from developmental groups to age groups and senior/junior groups. I can teach the proper skills and fundamentals for each appropriate level.

I also have a B.S in Exercise and Health Science, which has allowed me to work as a personal trainer. I have a great deal on knowledge in the area of swimmers conditioning, I can create great injury prevention programs as well as great fitness/conditioning programs for high school age swimmers.

I take great pride in knowing that I can teach competitive swimming components both in and out of the water.

I am CPR, First Aid, Water Safety Instructor and USA Swimming Coach Certified.

Growing up I swam for local recreational clubs in the Boston area (YMCA, B&GC and Community Clubs). I was never a great swimmer and was never really interested in swimming at a high level, I was more interested in helping out the clubs and becoming a knowledgeable swimming coach more than anything.

I became really interested in coaching when I did an Internship with Bay and Ocean State Squids (Now Crimson Aquatics) under Joshua Stern leadership. Seeing how he coached and his approach is what sparked an interest in becoming a good swimming coach.

The development of a session plan will depend on the needs of the athlete. My goal as a coach/instructor is to find out what are the athletes goals and needs. I will then create a session that will focus on both, exploring ways to achieve the goal whether it is in or out of the water, and teach proper drills that will correct the need to improve area.
