More About Coach Eve

25 years ago I joined a kids running group, and ever since I laced up my shoes that first day of practice, running has stayed with me as my most fulfilling lifelong pursuit. While at college at Harvard, the legendary spirit of running in Boston enticed me to train for my first marathon. I have run 11 marathons since, and I’m a 5-time Boston Marathon finisher.

Inspired by the great coaches and role models I have had throughout the years, I became a running coach in 2006. I brought hundreds of runners from 3 miles to 26.2 miles in 6 months through the AIDS Marathon Training Program, and I trained hundreds of runners for 11 half marathons for Fleet Feet Sports San Francisco. I am a Road Runners Club of America Certified Coach and a USATF Level I Certified Coach.

In 2011, I founded my personal coaching business, Coach Eve: Personal Training for Joyful Running, and I presently train beginner, intermediate and advanced clients for races ranging from 5K to marathon distance. I also work with clients with no particular race goals, as well as members of the military and others training for professional fitness tests.

I am very successful in helping my clients stay injury free and attain their performance goals. And most of all, I help my clients maximize their joy and fulfillment in this awesome sport. I would love to help you excel in your training while having a blast throughout!

First, let me define my travel zone: I travel up to 25 miles from Tiburon, CA to meet clients in beautiful outdoor running locations. I meet clients in many locations throughout Northern and Southern Marin. In San Francisco, I meet clients at Crissy Field, Presidio, Golden Gate Park, Kezar Stadium, and Ocean Beach. In the the East Bay, I meet clients at Point Pinole Regional Park, Wildcat Canyon, Albany Middle School, and the Berkeley & Emeryville Marina areas.

I coach runners of different levels, from beginner to Boston qualifier, providing goal-specific training sessions, as well as motivation, encouragement, and sound training advice every step of the way.

New clients are asked to fill out the "New Client Questionnaire" on the Coach Eve website, so I can better understand your experience, interests, and objectives in working together.

As your coach, I offer:

•Initial correspondence to define running goals and discuss topics of interest
•Customized in-person training sessions to support your running goals and individual needs
•Unlimited email and phone correspondence between training sessions

Each training session starts with a warm-up, dynamic stretches, and then the workout. The workout is followed by static stretches. To help my clients prevent injury and improve their running economy, I also offer a number of mobility and stability assessments, as well as targeted exercises to optimize flexibility, increase postural stability, and increase strength.

Eve helped me train for the run portion of the US Navy PRT. Her coaching helped me take over two minutes off of my run time in less than three months. I probably wouldn't be where I am right now without her help.

Outstanding Coach.

Patient, professional, know's what she's doing. Highly recommended!

Coach Eve was incredible. She is patient, knowledgeable, and kind. Being in the medical field, I was very impressed with her attention to running holistically and not pushing the body. She is committed to your success. I highly recommend her for anyone who is serious about building a running practice. She is also very affordable and accommodating to a complex schedule as mine was.
Coach Eve is aside from years of knowledge in running drills, plan creation, stretching pre/post run, she is also very understanding of the emotional component. I plan to work with her more when I am back in San Francisco and believe any one in need of serious coaching should hire her.

When I had started researching for a marathon coach I came across Coach Up and saw the reviews on Coach Eve I booked three in person sessions and have to say the other reviewers are spot on!! I couldn't be happier with how the training went. From video analysis to phone calls and texts with my numerous questions Eve is the coach for the beginner to the serious runner. Eve provided feedback on my running form, stretching routine injury prevention & cross training. I'm in the middle of training for my 5th marathon and feel better than ever...Thanks Eve!!!

Eve is an incredible coach! She's very smart and understands how to create the perfect workout for you. She is really encouraging and fun to be with. I've learned a lot from her about how to warm up and how to warm down so that you don't get injured. She never forces anything upon you, but she always thoughtfully answers every running-related question you have. I can't recommend her more highly!

Coach Eve is knowledgeable, helpful, and fantastic.

First session was perfect. Eve seems like a natural coach and has a great attitude and approach with my 13 year old son.

I have done one session with her and I could already feel huge difference. She is very detailed and makes sure that you have everything you need. I'd definitely do more sessions with her if necessary.

Coach Eve did a fantastic job - she had some great drills to help with the fundamentals. Highly recommend!

My 13 year old daughter really enjoyed working with Coach Eve. In a few sessions, my daughter learned some techniques to prevent injuries and to run faster. Coach Eve is very patient and positive. I would recommend her to anyone at any age.

Coach Eve is terrific. And don't be deceived by her easy going, friendly demeanor (which is lovely). she jumps right with a program that progresses you just enough each time. Her assessment was helpful and I appreciate her warmups and cool downs as well as her willingness to meet me close to home. She is deeply knowledgeable about running and training. I feel lucky she is my coach.

Coach Eve was great. My husband and I are beginners and she gave us all the tips and information we need. She took the time to assess our running styles and gave us invaluable feedback. She was so patient and answered all our questions. It was exactly what we wanted.

When I first met Eve, I could barely run a mile and since I started running with her, I've done two half marathons and planning future races. She has been an amazing coach--so supportive and fun to run with with. For both of my half marathons she was there to cheer me on the sidelines. She has also been really great about guiding me to run without overextending myself so I've never had any injuries in the training leading up to my races. I can't recommend her enough!

I look forward to working with her more in the future!

I had only three in-person sessions with Eve during my month in San Francisco, but I got so much out of these. She started by filming me running so that we could look at my technique and adjust as needed; she also gave me a warm-up and cool-down routine, dynamic stretches, proper technique for running up and down steep hills, and lots of tips on carb loading and fuelling during my longer runs. Ahead of my Golden Gate half-marathon, she gave me a great strategy that worked perfectly for me and I had a really strong race both directly and indirectly a result of our work together, her encouragement and reassurance also playing a part. I really enjoyed our sessions and warmly recommend Eve as a coach for any recreational runner!

Coach Eve is the best!! As someone who had never run a race longer than a 5k, I came to Coach Eve with the goal of running a marathon in a relatively short amount of time. I had been doing A LOT of my own research and created my own training plan and I needed to get an expert to tell me if my goal was reasonable. Coach Eve was great!! She evaluated my running form and my strength. She gave me feedback on how to tweak my training plan to maximize gains and minimize injury. She gave me pointers on how to optimize my natural running form, increase strength, and fuel my runs successfully. I made it to the finish line in exactly the time I was targeting, injury free, and a huge smile on my face. No wall in sight!! I couldn't have been more thrilled with my experience with Coach Eve. I highly recommend her!! She's a lovely person and a knowledgable expert. Basically, the perfect package. : ) I will be coming back to Coach Eve when I decide on my next running challenge!

Really knowledgeable regarding the latest research on running. Super nice and friendly. We've been working with her to prepare for a half marathon and has been really helpful, replying to all of our questions and making sure we don't get injured and are able to run the race.

Coach Eve is the best! She is highly motivating and very knowledgeable about running. Coach Eve also takes proper stretching before and after seriously to help avoid injury. I'm definitely looking forward to our next session.

My session with Coach Eve was very worthwhile. It was great to have validation of my solo efforts to improve my form. She also provided a number of suggestions that I have already put into practice with positive results. Highly recommended!

Eve is terrific with beginners, too. She seems to know where you are at and works with you. She is so pleasant and supportive. I was interested in preventing injuries and she taught me exercises to help. She makes the whole process fun. My running is much better after her help.

Eve is an excellent coach who is clearly passionate about her work. During our session, she showed me a number of exercises that I will incorporate into my regular training schedule. Highly recommended.

Coach Eve is great to work with! Based on my goals, she developed a training plan for me. I am learning a lot about technique, flexibility, and strength training. I'm having fun as I push to a higher level of performance. It's exciting!

I've only had two sessions with Coach Eve, and so far I am extremely happy. She knows her stuff, and she is the most kindest and most motivating coach anyone can ask for. I'm a complete beginner, and my biggest concern was preventing injuries. Coach Eve has the knowledge to prevent injuries, and she has shown me how to properly stretch before a run and after a run. I will update as I progress. Run now and book Coach Eve!

Eve was great. I am running again after a 20 year hiatus, and feel that I am starting out as a new runner. I contacted Eve to get advice and direction about my form, workout intensity level, and tips for properly warming up, stretching and recovery, all with the goal of limiting my exposure to injury. Eve was very knowledgable, and her advice and direction were great. Thanks Eve!

Coach Eve is fantastic. She is super friendly and personable, and really takes the time to get to know your needs & requests. Eve is thorough to begin with, asks about your running history & injuries and what you are looking to accomplish in a pre-coaching interview. In my first session, Eve observed my form and did several tests to see what I needed to work on to begin with, and worked with me to observe where I was especially tight; she then gave me some pointers on stretching effectively. Finally, Eve is really encouraging- less like my 8th grade soccer coach and more like a cheerleader (with some great insights to boot)! She is really positive and motivating. Definitely booking more sessions with Coach Eve! Highly recommended!

Coach Eve is an excellent running coach. She's highly skilled, knowledgeable and inspirational. When I first met Eve, I was a casual, intermittent, low-mileage runner interested in training for a half marathon. With Coach Eve's advice and encouragement, I ran my first 13.1 miles feeling strong, happy and injury-free. That turned out to be only the beginning! Coach Eve was also by my side as I trained for several more half marathons, and there was nothing better than having her there for me when I finished my first marathon. You're definitely getting something special with Coach Eve. She really invests in you and your goals, and you won't find anyone with more enthusiasm for the sport. She's an accomplished runner who's a pleasure to learn from and run with. I look forward to working with her to take my running to the next level.
I met Eve four years ago at my gym when I was recovering from an injury. We struck up a conversation while biking next to each other and immediately hit it off. She was so supportive and encouraging as I slowly made my way back to running. In fact, with her by my side, I successfully completed my third Boston marathon just five months after having knee surgery. I have never met anyone as passionate and dedicated to running as Eve. Her eyes light up with pure joy when she talks about running and her runners. She truly loves coaching others no matter where they are in their running journey from one milers to seasoned marathoners. If you're looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic, intelligent, challenging and spirited coach, look no further than Coach Eve.
I first met Coach Eve training for my first marathon - the Florence Marathon in 2007. She was the coach for a site of approximately 80 runners, all of different levels. At the start all of us wondered how in months we would be able to run 26 miles. But we did it. And it was amazing! Her enthusiasm is the first thing one notices about Eve. That and the direction and experience and knowledge she has to impart. You just feel you are in good hands. I've gone on to run 2 more full marathons as well as half marathons, trail races and smaller events. And I've ended up remaining in touch with Coach Eve as well as other amazing friends I met throughout training. Several of us would be training buddies now and then and even support each other at races we had trained for later on. And btw, I wholly encourage anyone "thinking" about doing one -especially if you've been thinking about it 'a long time' ;) to start. Just show up. The confidence and life affirming lessons you will gain will be life changing, and you meet amazing people along the way! Plus you get the added health and fitness benefits -& yes you will look better in your jeans too :) I can't stress how much it meant to me personally to have her as a coach. I was very lucky. There have been many times during training or running a race her confidence in my ability has helped push me on to the finish line. There have been times I would think, “Well if Eve thinks I can do it, I guess I can do it.” And I would! Hers is a gift she is naturally born to I think, to encourage and support others and share what she knows, including the joy of the sport. She will also be there with unparalleled enthusiasm and your triumphs I think are really her greatest reward.
I personally had the pleasure of meeting Coach Eve while training for the Florence Marathon. I had never done anything like this before!!!!!!!! Coach Eve was always upbeat, caring full of info and most of all, wanting to see her runners succeed as much as we did ourselves. WOW. We knew every week as we struggled, we had the best by our sides, literally. She would pop up right next to you and make sure you were ok and feeling good. On the great day of the marathon, as I struggled one more time, guess who popped up one more time to make sure I and several others finished. I will always remember her happy face, strong will to keep going, positive attitude, and her face cheering us home. I hope that you have the same fortune as I had meeting, A TRUE COACH, with a huge heart who truly cares for her runners and loves and lives the sport. I could not have achieved my goal without her leadership and determination for me to be a winner.
I trained for my very first marathon in 2006. I was 23 years old and had no idea what I was doing or even where to begin - until i met Coach Eve. There are many people who say they love to run. Maybe even some who say they are passionate about it. But the fire and drive that Coach Eve has is unsurpassed and when combined with a nurturing and natural skill in teaching/training others, the product is nothing short of magic. Eve was instrumental, not only in helping me train for my first marathon, but also in igniting my own passion for running and training for long distance races. I went on to run a total of 5 full marathons and 2 half marathons. She has my highest recommendation and I consider it a high honor and blessing to have her as a coach, cheerleader, and friend.
When I signed up for my first marathon training program I was fortunate enough to have Eve as my Coach. I was 59 years old and hadn't run in over 40 years. She was knowledgeable, supportive, friendly, enthusiastic, and joyful. I did so well in my first marathon in Las Vegas in 2007 I signed up for her Advanced Program to train for the San Francisco Marathon in 2008. In both races she was out on the course being a total cheerleader. She loves coaching and it really shows. My results were amazing all because of her specialized training. I highly recommend her for beginners and all levels of experience. I have now completed 9 marathons and 6 half marathons. Eve has made a big difference in my life, and will forever be my Virtual Coach.
