More About Coach Evan
12 seasons coaching varsity high school cross country, winter track and spring track, MIAA state and national certified track coach, USATF certified track and field coach. I have coached multiple MIAA State Champions, New England Champions, and an All-American. I am currently a personal trainer at a YMCA, personal train on the side, and continue to coach Cross Country and Track and Field. I also am a National Strenght and Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA) CPT; I am currently studying for my CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist). I have over 100 hours experience learning/interning at a highly regarded semi-privatized training facility for elite athletic performance, where I learned a multitude of mobility and corrective exercises, proper exercise techniques, progressive and regressive exercise variations to adjust for specific individual needs, and also developing training programs that are specific to performance in the selected sport/event.
I have also done internship work with the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer, where I worked for the Academy and applied the leadership and managerial skills introduced to me while receiving my BS in Sports Management from Springfield College in 2010;
I have modest high school running PR's of: 4:40 in 1 mile, 52.5 in 400m, <2:04 @ 800m. While at Somerset High School (Somerset, Ma) I played soccer in the Fall where I was a part of the School's only State Championship team in 2004. I was a Captain, EAC All-Star, and undefeated in the mile and 4x400m relay during both the Winter and Spring of my senior year, and set school records in the indoor and outdoor 4x400m, sprint medley, and 4x1600m.
(1) Set goals, deadlines for their achievement, and gather an understanding for the progression of various phases of the program.
(2) Nutrition/Diet "suggestions" based on length of race being trained for, weekly mileage, and body mass. Things like carb intake per Lb body weight per X amount of time training.
(3) Assessing and "suggesting" functional strength and mobility training during early running phases to help body adjust to demands of the later phases. I have experience in a sports specific training facility and will be a certified personal trainer shortly.
(4) The many facets of proper running form
(5) breathing strategies (rhythmic)
(6) Complete workouts specialized for you, developed in response to how your body is reacting to the demands of each week and phase, and tapered in time for your "competitive season"

We started running later in life and thankfully we found Coach Evan! He has taught us techniques on proper stretching, running form, and training techniques to prepare us to be at our best on race day. Without reservation, we highly recommend Coach Evan!

Coach Evan was great! He was very knowleable and effective. He met with my twelve year old son and immediately identified se potential trouble areas before we even started form drills. He has a great calm and fun personality which helped ease my son's initial anxiety. The session was well thought out and extremely helpful! We are planning on more in the future!

When you work with Evan you're not just getting a coach for some individual sessions; you're getting an expert in all facets of fitness and a passionate partner in your training. Coach Evan is bursting with information, advice and guidance and it's clear from day one that he's fully invested in your success. He's a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend him.
Megan Lazaro, UMASS Dartmouth, Class of 2017 (Testimonial)
As a runner for all 12 seasons in high school, I had experienced training from multiple coaches; however Coach Evan Costa was by far the most inspiring, passionate and dedicated of all of them. Not only did he give his full attention while at practice or during a meet, but he also spent his own time working out strategies, tactics, and even creating an inspirational video for the team. Watching this video has increased my interest and dedication in running multiple times. What makes Coach Evan Costa stand out beyond any other coach is his ability to be more then just a coach; he was there to discuss any problems, give advice, and most importantly give you confidence when your effort is not giving you the desired results on the track. Anyone who works with this coach will not only become a better athlete but will also learn morals about dedication, passion and effort that apply to any aspect in your life.
Thomas J. Carroll Harvard College | Class of 2016 BS Candidate in Chemistry (Testimonial)
Evan Costa was a truly exceptional trainer and coach. Because of his efforts, I became a much stronger runner and I got into the best shape of my life. Only through his training was I able to beat my personal records on numerous occasions and ran at a national track meet. I recommend him highly without reservation.
Kelsey McGinnis, Connecticut College, 5,000m PR: 17:53 (Testimonial)
The most important things in racing are competitiveness and confidence. Evan was able to provide workouts and knowledge in order to encourage both of these qualities to come through. As my times improved, I had an increasing faith in my training which then led to even greater success. Most importantly for me, as a longer distance runner, the confidence Evan had in my speed helped me greatly. Now, I am more positive about finishing strong and running shorter races.
Conor Slack, UMASS Amherst (Testimonial)
I had the privilege of having Evan as my coach for my junior and senior years of both winter and spring track. It was easy to see he was passionate about the sport of track and field, and he did a great job of motivating and bringing out the best in all of us on the team. The state of the team improved immensly since he has coached and continues to. I attribute alot of my individual success in the sport to Evan's coaching skills. Senior year I improved from a 54.5 in the 400 to a 50.6 in just one season. This was also the first year I had made states, and I had done track all four years. Evan has proven to be an extremely talented and knowledgeable coach. I really believe he has the ability to take all those who work with him to the next level.
Kelsie Lazaro Worcester Polytechnic Institute- Class of 2016 Civil Engineering MIW Corporation- Intern WPI Pep Band- President (Testimonial)
For many years of my life, all I heard was that I had great potential and that if I worked hard, I would become a successful athlete. When Evan Costa became my coach, he showed me different ways I could begin to reach my potential instead of hoping it would come to me. To this day, competing as a collegiate athlete, the advice and coaching of Evan still cross my mind at the end of each race.
