More About Coach Ethan

I spent several summers coaching Middle and High School athletes in a group setting. I oversaw and coached groups of about 10 during any given session. I started the sessions with introductions for the new athletes, followed by a warm-up and drill routine that I led. This typically takes about 20 minutes. (hip mobility drills, dynamic stretching, A-skips, B-skips, karaoke, high knee karaoke, straight-legged bounds long, straight-legged bounds fast, high knees, butt kicks, 15 minute jog warm-up. We would then go into the main workout where the athletes would be split into groups based on current level and be given a tailored workout for that given day. I would oversee the workout and bounce between groups running along with them and giving them instructions throughout. The day would then conclude with a core workout that I would lead for 5 minutes and a stagnant stretching/injury prevention session.

I competed for all four seasons at the University of San Diego as a division 1 cross country and track athlete. I was team captain for three straight years, and set three school records during my time at USD. I held the school record in the 10K with a time of 31:20, the 5K 14:33, and the 8K 24:20. I was also the USD invite champion my senior year held at Mission Bay. I worked relentlessly to make my teammates better and to create the best team that we could.

My session plan would be similar to the one I described with my previous coaching experience. The most critical part would be meeting my client and understanding their needs and goals. The session would be determined based on the goals of the customer. However, it would be broken into three parts for recurring clients: 1. warm-up consisting of a dynamic stretching and drills that I would demonstrate for them then a jogging warmup. 2. the main workout which will vary and be tailored to the athlete and their running goals. 3. A cool-down jog, stretching and injury prevention, and a running-specific core workout.

Great coach for my 9 year old. Motivated him to have fun for an hour of running and agility drills. Can’t beat that.
