I've coached children from 8-18yrs old from beginner to intermediate levels. I've worked as a private coach and currently a varsity coach at an UWS school.

2009 Athlete of the Year, 3x Texas 5A-State qualifier in 100 meter hurdles, 100 meter dash, and 300 meter hurdles. City record holder in 200m, 100, 100h, 300h, long jump. MVP 2007-2010. 2011 NCAA National Championship Qualifier in the 4x1 relay. 2011 LSC Conference Champion and All-Star. University record holder in 60 meter hurdles, 100 meter hurdles. Competed in sprints, jumps, mid-distance, and hepthathlon. Currently training for a marathon.

Workouts are customized to your individual event. Each individual will be handed customized workouts with SPEED TARGET TIMES, ENDURANCE LEVEL, NUTRITION, ETC.

For 100m-400m sprinters: The first weeks of training will be solely to increase endurance, strengthening and conditioning. After a few weeks, we will have time trials and work around your times to maximize your speed. BLOCK WORK IS VERY IMPORTANT TOO.

For 300/400m hurdlers: a typical workout for the first week include building endurance (200m-800m), hurdles drills (all agility drills, alternating hurdle drills, attacking hurdles effectively) getting those cadence to work is VERY important. Weight lifting (3-4x a week). After 3-4 weeks of intense endurance training, speed will be targeted and hurdle drills will advance.

For jumpers: Building strength is vital, we will work on drills and short speed workouts ranging from 60m-150m.

The overall goals of New York Cares recreation programs like Sports Explorers are to help children learn athletic skills in a fun and safe environment, and Ms. Gonzalez does an excellent job of fostering these objectives. As the Manager for this program, I have witnessed Ms. Gonzalez lead and mentor the students and volunteers each week. The children light up when she enters the gym. She encourages all to participate in multiple types of sports to the best of their abilities and leads by example. As one can imagine with elementary students, occasionally things will go wrong and a child may become upset due to missing a goal or not being picked for the right team. In these sensitive situations Ms. Gonzalez has shown the ability to calm, comfort, and support the kids.
