I played collegiately for Arkansas State and for top men's clubs and international tours in the 2 years since graduation. (Northeast Olympic Development Academy and Old Blue of New York.)
Our professional athletes had two sessions per day, one speed/field session and a weight room session in the PM. Most youth athletes, however, only have time for one session per day. One session with a youth athlete looks similar to the following:
Warm-Up: Movement Prep, Myofascial Release, Dynamic Stretching, Local Activation/Potentiation.
Plyometrics: Jumping, Force Production, Loading, Landing/Decelerating safely.
Acceleration Development: Postural and Body Angle Drills, "A" Series, Bounds, Sprints of approximately 10m (will increase as athlete masters the drive phase) 25-30 minutes have passed at this point, allowing for 30-35 minutes of strength training and cool down.
Strength/Power: The lifts throughout the week will be comprised of full body training with an emphasis on lower body and core. A balance will be maintained between hip dominant:knee movements as well as between anterior:posterior muscle development.
