More About Coach Derek
I've coached individuals in the throwing events for over a decade. I've worked with all levels from high school beginners to professionals!
Personally I hold many school, state, and meet records in the throws from high school to college. I was a two time NCAA Division 1 All-American while attending Northeastern University in Boston, MA. In 2006 I was named the USATF Northeast Collegiate Athlete of the Year, and finished my collegiate career ranked top 100 in the world in shot put and discus. Personal Bests Include: Shot Put 19.88 (65'3") Discus 60.13 (197"3") Hammer (173'9") Weight Throw (60'2")
A typical session begins with identifying the athlete's mental approach to the event(s) followed by light throwing to determine skill level in technique. Once understanding the athlete's current level specific drills will be taught to improve fundamentals along with active throws coaching. The goal of each session is to help the athlete improve functional movement along with training and competitive mindset.

Derek was a great coach. In just one hour he immediately connected with my son and got him excited and inspired. He took the time to learn what my son needed help in and was a great communicator of the shot and discus throw process. My son was provided all he need during the session to correct several flaws, a plan, and drills that would help him to perfect his throws at home. My has already improved, in one week he threw a league qualifying personal best.
