More About Coach Demond
I have experience coaching and training athletes at the Division II level. I spent 4 years coaching the Sprints and Hurdles groups at Wingate University. Typically, I work with both high-school and collegiate athletes. I'm very open to working with younger groups as well.
I competed at the Division II level at the University of Mount Olive and Wingate. I was a 4x All Conference and 2x All-Region Athlete (2016-2020).
As a coach:
- 2x Indoor South Atlantic Conference Champions (2023 & 2024)
- 2x Outdoor South Atlantic Conference Champions (2023 & 2024)
- 1 National Champion (DMR)
- 2 All-Americans (DMR/400m)
- 10 All-Region Athletes
In a typical session, a client can expect:
- Warmup (800m jog followed by Dynamic and Static movements specific to the training session/goal)
- Mobility Work (banded exercises and standard hurdle mobility)
- Sprints over Wickets/Banana Hurdles (dependent on Stride Length)
- Discussion of Training Session/Goal, Volume, and Intensity
- Sprints (whether it be Aerobic/Anaerobic or Flat Sprints/Hurdles)
I usually work my athletes with a Short to Long approach. I've found large amounts of volume to be unnecessary if we are slow. The goal is to run fast, and that is what we will do, but safely. It all depends on where you are and what your goal is. 400m Sprinters/Hurdlers obviously will push their Lactic/Anaerobic Threshold a bit more compared to the 100m/100H/110H/200m athletes, but as the great Tony Holler said "Feed the Cats".
