More About Coach David
For over 15 years, I have been involved in a strong coaching capacity. My experience in coaching individuals spans from the high school level, post-collegiate and one-on-one private sessions. During my time as a high school coach, I was fortunate to play a role in helping individuals reach their potential in capturing state championship titles in track & field. I don't restrict myself to one particular age group, as I believe that you can be any age and have goals that are attainable. Whether someone is 15 to 55 and wants to become better at their event(s), I want to help them achieve their goals to the best of their abilities.
Personal Bests:
1 Mile: 4:22
5000m: 15:36
Half Marathon: 1:09:03
Marathon: 2:34:48
9 x Ironman 70.3
Began at 6:32 and have improved to 4:56
1 x Ironman 140.6
12:20
I began running at an early age and it progressed through high school and ultimately to the collegiate level. During my senior year of high school (The Barstow School in Kansas City, Missouri,) I was undefeated in the mile during the regular season. I was fortunate to earn All-State honors in Cross Country and Track & Field. I competed at the NCAA DII-level for Northwest Missouri State University in the 1500m, 5km, and 10km events. Upon graduating from NWMSU, I competed for the Kansas City Smoke Running Club, where I focused on the half-marathon and full-marathon distances. It was during this time that I was able to train with several outstanding post-collegiate athletes and individuals poised to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the marathon. Through countless hours of training, I achieved PR's in the half marathon (1:09:0 / Fontana Days) and marathon (2:34:48 / Chicago Marathon). I've competed at the U.S. Half Marathon Championships (Duluth, MN), countless USATF Club Championships in both Cross Country and Track & Field. Additionally, I've competed twice in the Boston Marathon (2014, 2015) with finishing times of 2:47:09 and 2:40:24.
I believe that the most effective coach is one who establishes an immediate connection to their athletes. Our first conversation should be focused on the athlete's story and their background in running. Understanding their background, learning what their goals are and ultimately how they see themselves achieving those goals will provide me with the necessary tools in creating and cultivating their training plan. When meeting for a typical session, it will begin with a series of dynamic stretching and drills. After a proper warm up, we will review the prescribed workout, answer any questions, and away we go! I believe it's crucial to observe key sessions / workouts to ensure it is done correctly and also provide real-time feedback as necessary. I truly love being part of the process from beginning to end with my athletes.
