More About Coach Daulton

I've been training athletes in speed and strength for several years. I've mostly worked with college athletes, but I also have experience with high school and prepubescent athletes (you can never start too young!!). I think I've enjoyed working with youth the most; they're always excited/ready to learn amd because of the lack of hormones being produced in the body due to their young age, they propose a unique challenge to obtaining responses and results in the musculoskeletal system. Older athletes tend to be more driven and ambitious though. They've had a taste of success somewhere and want more.

I competed at Christopher Newport University, earning All-Conference awards in the sprinting and jumping events (60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, triple jump, and high jump). I've also competed Nationally, qualifying in the 200m and 4x100m relay and earning 2 All-American accolades in the 200m. I also continue to compete as a post-collegiate athlete.

Like any other form of training, it really depends on what the athlete wants to accomplish (which would be established prior to the session). Ideally, the athlete would be warmed up prior to the session starting so that we can get the most out of entire duration of our time together. Then we would proceed to briefly go over the form and technique for each movement prescribed during the session, followed by performing those exercises. Finally a breakdown of how the day went, what they were feeling, concerns/questions, and what to expect for the next session.

My son is a high jumper with a great deal of excitement, but very little professional coaching. Coach, is now in the process of training him on the appropriate foot work, hip balance and other techniques needed to be more successful as a high school jumper. Excellent session! I am certain Coach Daulton set me on a path to success. I learned the fundamentals of acceleration and how to approach the high jump bar. At the session’s closure he asked my parents to join us, providing a summary of what was learned, objectives for the week, and what would be learned the next session. He also taught cool down and stretch techniques following a workout to protect from injury. In short, he is an unquestionably exceptional coach who shows 100% commitment to an athlete’s success. We are blessed to have been able to meet and work with him.
