More About Coach Dan

I have worked with athletes ranging from professional (MLB, NFL, MLS, Etc.) to middle school. Below I have outlined more specifically. My experience is as follows:

-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA (2013-Current)
-Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Portland Timbers (2018-present)
-Strength & Conditioning Coach for the LA Galaxy (2015-2018)
-Performance Manager and Head Performance Coach at Twist Sport Conditioning (2013-2015)
-CPR Certified (2006-Current)
-BS in Human Physiology (2013)
-Physiological Testing for Bowerman Sports Science Center for Nike Elite Runners (2012-2013)
-Performance Specialist Intern through EXOS working with numerous NFL, MLB, and Olympic Level Athletes (2013)

I competed at the varsity level for both track and field and basketball at my high school in Portland, OR. During my time there I was a part of multiple state competitions. While I received numerous scholarship offers for track, it was not my passion. I attained a full ride for academics to the University of Oregon and immediately began working with high level athletes. Ever since then I have been coaching. While I did not compete at a high level, I have trained those that have and who have gone on to have enormously successful careers in the NFL, MLB, MLS, and Olympic teams.

Before our first session, I will email you a form describing your goals, athletic performance, and various other questions referencing your nutrition, sleep habits, and injury history. During our first session we will briefly discuss your responses. My number one goal will always be injury prevention. It is because of this we will perform a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) that will test your mobility and stability and reveal injury risks. We will then do some performance testing to have metrics on how fast you run, how quick you move, etc.

Based off all the information gathered, I will design a program that will 1. Keep you on the field and 2. Make you more explosive and quicker in a matter of a few sessions. A typical day of training will include the following elements:
1. Dynamic Warmup
2. Plyometrics
3. Movement Skill (speed and agility, both linear and lateral)
4. Strength Training
5. Energy System Development/Conditioning (ESD)

Client Reviews

My 10yr old loved his first session with Dan. Dan was very well prepared and had his session plan laid out in a way which allowed him to make adjustments based on what he saw from our son.

He gave easy to understand direction and provided the right level of adjustment and coaching when necessary. Yesterday was our first session but we’ve already booked more! I would recommend Dan to anybody!

Dan knows his stuff! We talked about goals and he was able to explain to me the process of training thoroughly. The workouts he set up really attack my weaknesses and i can already notice a difference. Im excited to continue working with him.

I was really nervous going into this training, but Coach Dan was very welcoming and reassuring. He has helped me gain confidence and worked with me on my previous injuries. I've only had 1 session so far and I'm looking forward to all of the others.

Great job

Had a great session with you, Dan! Thanks so much for making time on such short notice! I’m really looking forward to hearing the results from the FMS and working with you in the future.

Coach Dan's online personal training offering is awesome. He was able to use my goals, available equipment, and a few videos and pictures to come up with a challenging and already-rewarding workout plan. The program provides a focus for my workouts and enables me to work on improving rather than worrying about what exercise to jump to next. Thanks Coach!

We requested Coach Dan J. services and were very pleased with his quick response and for working with us on the best time possible for us to train. My son had his training session and felt comfortable and enjoyed his training and fitness knowledge. Coach Dan also had good input and knowledge when putting together a program that would best suit our son. We are looking forward to working with him for future trainings. Coach Dan is someone we would recommend to other athletes!

I went to Coach Dan to improve my initial sprint and running form, as well as work on my core strength. Coach Dan is a good coach who's taught me multiple exercises that allow for many differnet ways to improve my form and fitness level. Coach Dan is a humorous guy who doesn't just coach the athlete he interacts well with them too. He has helped me improve both on the field and off.

Coach Dan took the time to understand my boys’ (10yrs/13yrs) needs and activity levels. Coach Dan quickly made a connection with them and their session was focused but fun. After just one session, both my boys and I can see the value in continuing with Coach Dan. They are excited and eager to improve their soccer skills by becoming stronger, quicker and more agile with Coach Dan!

After his first session with Dan my son was really impressed with his patience, fitness knowledge and the routines he ran him through. My son has done different types of fitness classes and they were all good, but the one on one work with Dan has motivated him to continue these sessions to improve his overall fitness level and enhance soccer performance.

I rarely write reviews. However, I did feel like I need to take the time to write one about Coach Dan J. He is an awesome trainer. After having my Son work with various trainers, He finally found a great fit! Dan is not only professional, but he is patient and makes his training fun, and after his first session my Son felt that Dan will help him successfully reach his fitness goals, He can't wait for his next session ,thank you Dan

Dan worked with me in Portland for over a year and half and I can't say enough good things about my experience. I was a Sophomore lacrosse player in high school who was looking to make varsity that year. My biggest weaknesses included speed, lateral agility, and overall strength. We trained consistently for 4 months leading into the season. My first step explosiveness improved drastically and I put on about 10 lbs of muscle in that time. Not only did I make varsity but I ended up winning defensive player of the year for my team. Dan always came prepared, was extremely professional, and provided excellent instruction. You will not find a better, more experienced strength and conditioning coach.
