More About Coach Craig

I have been instructing infants, children, and adults swimming for over 10 years in and around the Boston area, Martha's Vineyard, as well as Vermont. My coaching is based on the principles I learned growing up in the American Red Cross aquatics programs and from my own private coaches, and incorporates the skill drills I found most helpful/useful as a swimmer training and competing at the national level as a member of the US Mass Bay Marlins.

I enjoy working with swimmers of all ages and skill level, but I especially enjoy the challenge of coaching teenagers, because with them I can make the biggest difference in their abilities in and out of the water. My specialties include stroke development, biomechanics, skill drills, conditioning, interval training, strength training, injury prevention, body positioning, balance, breathing techniques, recovery, race programming, and making it a wonderful experience. I focus on teaching when and how to improve their bodies and mind to fully understand the concept, "Swim smarter, not harder."

I start my sessions with a dynamic pool deck warm-up where I incorporate a dry land conditioning routine to improve body control and positioning in the water. After that is complete I follow with more skill drills and pace work in the water to reaffirm exactly what I want you to feel when it's time to put it to work. When my athlete is ready, I will analyze their stroke progression through repetitions and loads of feedback between coach and athlete. Making sure each skill is fully understood by the athlete and why doing such techniques has improved their stroke and increased performance. After each session, I want my athlete to feel an immediate, solid improvement in his or her swimming technique and performance.
