More About Coach Craig
I have been a running coach for over twenty years and have worked with people at all levels of ability ranging from elite college runners to true novice beginners. The accomplishments that runners under my tutelage have achieved range from earning collegiate All-American honors to finishing their first ever road race. I am always making an attempt to further expand my running knowledge by attending clinics and reading about recent research. In 2014, I became USATF level 2 certified coach specializing in endurance events.
My coaching is based on the principles I learned as an high school and collegiate distance runner and from some of this country's most elite running guru's such as Alberto Salazar, Dr. Jack Daniels, and Dr. Joe Vigil, and Steve Magness. My specialty is designing specific training programs that are based off of the individual's personal goals, level of experience, and physical strengths.
A typical training session with me is not just about only putting in long miles on the road or hard intervals on the track. Over the course of a full training program I look to utilize a variety of different training elements like, running form drills, tempo runs, fartlek runs, track intervals, and strength training to further develop one's running ability. Daily sessions can vary from week to week and month to month depending on how one progresses in their fitness and what possible races they may have planned. Ultimately, I'm looking to include a variety of training components so that I can to help my athletes achieve their goals and maximize their potential.
I am a former NCAA division II collegiate distance runner where I earned all-region cross country honors and all conference track honors. I still train on a regular basis 5-7 days a week and have raced distances ranging from a mile to a marathon.
As a former collegiate coach, I've had athletes earn All-American honors and numerous all-conference honors. My runners have consistently seen dramatic improvements by trusting in my training programs.
I've worked with a variety of runners on a individual basis. Most recently, in March of 2012, I coached a female marathoner to a personal best of 2 hours 54 minutes at the Rock n' Roll Marathon in New Orleans.
When first planning a session with a client, I first want to know their background and what exactly they are looking to gain from working with a private coach. This conversation typically covers things like their level of experience, injury history, personal goals, and current training habits. This will give me a foundation of information that will allow me to make a training plan that will be appropriate for them.
After getting to know my clients background, the next step I perform is putting them through a movement analysis. This will help me identify any potential functional weaknesses that may cause an injury and will allow me to assign specific strength exercises that will address these issues. Staying healthy is a critical component to enjoying running and seeing a progression of fitness.
Once these first two steps are performed with a client, I can add specific and appropriate training components to a training session which will be geared towards helping them achieve their personal goals and maximize their potential.

Coach Craig was great training my 15 year old son. My son said he helped him a lot with his form. He is super friendly and very knowledgeable about running. We will definitely do more one-on-one sessions with him.
Charlotte (Everhardt) Werhan/ Former Nicholls State University cross country/track athlete. Boston Marathon qualifier. (Testimonial)
I just wanted to let you know that I never gave up running and that you were a great coach. You believed in me and got me in great shape! I just ran my 3 rd marathon and had a 12 minute PR and finished in 2:56 at the ING NY marathon.
Curt Slaughter/ Athletic Director at DSST College View High School. Denver, Colorado (Testimonial)
THANK YOU for all you have done for our runners. I know they really enjoyed running and working with you. I really appreciate the time and effort you put in and for them to improve so much just shows that the hard work paid off. Not only did they improve athletically, they had a great experience and that is what we are working hard to provide for all our athletes.
