Started coaching career at age 20

In early sessions for amateur throwers, I focus on understanding how well the thrower can articulate how he throws (body position), how he creates power (body mechanics), and the basic fundamentals. From these early assessments, I can create a coaching plan.
As we move forward we can analyze and tweak mechanics. It is essential to form good throwing HABITS.
In all stages of development, drilling is the most important part of my coaching.
In addition to drilling, we will devise a plan for optimal peak performance during your championship season. Expect to throw variable weights for each implement and variable quantities of throws during specific stages of training.
For ADVANCED throwers in college or professional, I can devise specific training plans for your seasons. We will work on continuously improving technique and maintaining those good habits throughout.

Very helpful with technique. Not judemental.

Great coach and very helpful

Over my last four years on the throwing team Coach Scarella has played an instrumental role in my evolution as a thrower. As a freshman he told me if I worked hard and bought into his philosophy for throwing there would be no limit on what I could accomplish. Four years later this has proven to be true. Coach Scarella has helped transformed me from a boy throwing 30 feet in the shot put and 65 feet in the disc, to a young man throwing 50 feet in the shot and 150 feet in the discus. He takes a dual approach with his athletes when training them. The first is a focus on technique. Coach Scarella helps athletes to master the basic mechanics as well as fine tuning each throwers technique. It is his ability to hone in on challenges of the individual athlete that makes him such an effective coach. The second part of Coaches philosophy deals with the mind of the athlete. He makes sure to focus on keeping his athletes in excellent mental shape so that they are able to perform to the best of there abilities at all times. This is what makes Coach Scarella the perfect Coach for anyone looking to become a better thrower.
Coach Chris Scarella coached me from a 29 foot shot putter to a 60 foot shot putter and a multi state medalist in two events within three and a half years. Under his guidance and coaching I was able to become an elite shot put and discus thrower, setting a school record, and winning numerous championships. Coach Scarella truly understands how to prepare athletes to throw far. He does so using multiple aspects, from psychological preparation for competitions, to effectively communicating, and teaching the technique of the throws. Under his guidance, Iona Prep Throws has dominated throwing in the area over the past half decade. I would highly recommend any athlete who wants to become an elite thrower to get in contact with Coach Scarella.
