More About Coach Charlotte

I am a nationally certified running coach with an outstanding background in competitive sports and over 20 years of coaching experience. I've led hundreds of runners to personal goals and numerous teams to victory as head coach for prominent New York City, Philadelphia and Chicago charity organizations. I bring passion, originality and expertise to running. My progressive approach: learn to love running by learning how to run (this applies to veterans and beginners alike!). Run correctly and it can change your life.
And most of all - I make it fun!

Running is a complicated skill. You can read 50 books on running but never know how to apply what you've read. It's also highly individual, meaning every runner has unique strengths and weaknesses which are hard to self-diagnose. My runners improve through mastering running form, building techniques to increase speed and stamina, and developing the mental skills to feel confident.

I coach individuals and small groups in New York City and recreational running teams and clubs by contract in the greater New York City metropolitan area. My knowledge and experience are broad in respect to race distance, age group and level. I am passionate about teaching beginners; inspiring anyone to run a marathon; bringing confidence to those who lack it; and reviving passion in runners facing burn out, mental obstacles, chronic injury and weight control.

I am a lifelong competitive athlete, gymnastics balance beam champion, and accomplished runner and biathlete. I won a prestigious Balance Bar grant for excellence in marathon running, an ambassadorship at lululemon athletica, and medals in 4 mile run and sprint distance biathlons. My leg appeared in the first Nike Shox ad and more than 30 years later I am featured as a star yogi in a New York City Bikram Yoga calendar.

My broad experience as an athlete and coach, social entrepreneur, and running advocate for women and girls have won me features in The New York Times, More Magazine and on the Hallmark Channel. As founder and head coach of Mothers Across America, I was nominated for a national humanitarian award for inspiring women of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds to run, and by Mayor Bloomberg for promoting fitness in neighborhoods at high risk for obesity-related disease.

I currently run, practice yoga and enjoy flying trapeze (watch me "fly" in The Flight Fantastic, a documentary about the greatest flying trapeze family of all time, The Flying Gaonas)!

Running is highly individual, deceptively complicated and requires an expert coach to diagnose individual weaknesses and strengths. Under my wing you will improve dramatically as a runner by learning to master form and technique, build speed and stamina, and develop the maturity, endurance and confidence to push through the rough patches while respecting your boundaries. During your first training session I will evaluate your running form and economy, assess your immediate technical needs and propose a strategy that will steer you effectively towards your goals. To improve as a runner is a process.

You will leave my training session feeling challenged, inspired and educated. You will have fun. A free introductory phone interview to discuss your history and determine your goals is offered before our initial meeting. Sessions typically last 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Charlotte is a nice person but she is not what I was looking for. I need a coach who can understand my fitness routine and help me perform and progress running while still enjoying other physical activities. We were not able to find a way to work together. Unfortunately I only realized it after paying for a package but Coach up allowed me to get some credit back to work with someone else.

Charlotte was very helpful in our initial session, I learned a lot of different techniques that I know will serve me well in the future and she also gave me recommendations for books/other resources that I'm excited to look into!

Charlotte is a great coach. She helped identify the improvements I could make in my running form. I already feel a positive change in my running.

Great tips and knowledge!

I have been running regularly for about 10 years. However, before my session with Charlotte, I felt like I was stuck permanently in beginner mode. I didn't have the confidence to unstuck myself because I felt that there were tons of conflicting information out there on every running-related topic, from stretching to posture to speed work to breathing. Spending an hour with Charlotte took me to another level. Throughout our session I felt like I was in the company of someone who's really dedicated, passionate, and knowledgable about running. Charlotte sorted out a number of technical things for me, which immediately gave me a new sense of focus and clarity. The next day, I applied Charlotte's tips, and to my surprise, I shaved off 1.5 mins (!) per mile without even trying to work harder. I now feel that running could become an interesting journey, something I could continuously get better at, instead of just a repetitive activity that you do just to check off the exercise box.

I cannot recommend Charlotte highly enough. Hiring her to be my running coach was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I’m sixty years old and started running recreationally when I was 53. I love running and am basically “self-taught”. A few months ago, after sustaining a mild injury, I realized that a running coach could not only improve the quality of my run, but also reduce my chances of injury.

Charlotte significantly improved my ability and form after the first session. Since then, she has helped me increase my stamina, reduce risks of injury, and enhance the pleasure from running.

Why didn’t I find her sooner? Better late than never. Just like my running, I guess.

Distinguished subject matter expertise. Impressive real-world experience. Patient and thoughtful coaching. Fun and pleasant demeaner. That’s Charlotte.

I’ve been training for my 1st marathon and felt I had taken the training as far as I could on my own. I booked a session with Charlotte and she gave me some tips, which I took to heart and implements in my 18 miles run this weekend. Her advice made a HUGE difference - I feel I can do this! I’ll be going back to her for more lessons this week. Thanks Charlotte!

I'm a 25 year old runner with about 2 years of experience. I have only had one session with Charlotte but I can already see benefits from her instruction. I would highly recommend!

The session with her was for my son. She was nice to my 8 years old boy, but very hard to schedule a lesson. The coach said that she is very busy with her clients. I had to be very patient to meet her.

Charlotte is easy to work with, fun, supportive, knowledgeable, finely tuned to mechanics, connected to many different resources and approaches which she shares generously. She's provided insights on my mechanics which seem quite helpful in speeding me up. I've only trained with her for a short time so I need to see if these gains hold over time but they're good enough so that I've purchased additional sessions with her. She also seems like a very nice and kind person. In any case, stay tuned!

Coach Charlotte took extra time with me, was deliberate and attentive, super professional, and willing to help.

Coach Charlotte has been coaching my son on improving his running form. In just a few sessions , she was able to work with him to identify areas to focus and improve. My son is looking forward to learning and getting better and I would absolutely recommend Coach Charlotte to anyone who is looking to improve either running form or technique.

Coach Charlotte was great. The improvements she recommended was a game changer and I could feel the difference immediately. Fantastic and looking forward to the next session.

Charlotte was so knowledgeable and pleasant to work with!! Definitely recommend!! I was given specific feedback on my running form, and everything was explained in detail. Charlotte made sure I understood the ins and outs of what my body was doing and how I could run to avoid injury. I left pumped knowing that my running form improved so much!! I will continue to work on the feedback I received and rebook with Charlotte to continue working on my running skills.

I had such a wonderful experience with Coach Charlotte. My goal for such a long time was to improve my form, avoid injury, and enjoy the process. I have only had one session so far but just midway through the lesson I knew I wanted to book another appointment. Coach Charlotte is extremely proficient and patient. She also gives great constructive criticism. Fantastic day!

Charlotte is great! Im a new runner and she was extremely patient with me. During our first session she made videos of me running slow motion to point out small things I could change in my form to make running safer and easier on my body. She is very knowledgeable and I can’t wait to work with her again.

Awesome coach!

Charlotte was on time (that means a lot to me), and was very knowledgeable. She’s very clear with instruction, which makes them easy to follow, and her use of video to demonstrate what she’s seeing is really helpful. I’m delighted with my new running coach and highly recommend her to anyone looking to take up running as a newbie, or to improve your form as an experienced runner.

Coach Charlotte is fantastic. I’m a novice runner and she helped me implement a strong foundation - from stride to breathing. I highly recommend her for anyone who wants to be a runner or be a better runner.

I was training for an upcoming physical fitness test and hurt my knee about two months prior. The time period to recover resulted in a significant reversal of all my progress. I needed help quickly and Charlotte was able to deliver in two sessions. Between running form and proper breathing techniques, I was able to run with less strain on my legs and don't get out of breath as easily. I passed my test with greater ease, but the improvements made running a lot less burdensome and at times even enjoyable.

Charlotte was incredibly patient, attentive and knowledgeable. She took videos to help me understand my form as well as observe others while giving me helpful tips to improve my running form and breathing. Definitely recommend. I’m specifically looking for support with getting back into running and ensuring I have a good process to avoid injury but seem like she’s adaptable in helping with different types. She’s a good investment!

I had a great first session with Coach Charlotte. She was warm and encouraging as well as super insightful and knowledgeable. I look forward to working more with her and improving my running.

So far I had 3 sessions with Coach Charlotte - I’ve learned about my form/how to engage my core/breathing techniques and I am totally blown away by the improvements and its impact it has made on my runs and just about everyday life. It’s amazing how those basic little things that most of us take for granted can change one’s life. I found myself using the newly developed awareness on the form/core/breathing whenever and wherever, especially on a rough day. I’m very much looking forward to the rest of sessions as I’m pretty hooked on the idea of being a life-long and joyful runner, meeting and training with Coach Charlotte definitely is a blessing in setting me on the right track!

Coach Charlotte was a great coach, she helped me get a new perspective on running forms and how to manage energy more wisely.

Three months ago I started as a 63 year old, novice runner (getting terribly winded after 200 meters) with Charlotte. She has been most patient and encouraging, with more faith in my running ability than I could ever have. She understood my capability and coached me appropriately.
Earlier today, I ran 6.2 miles. I could have never done this if it hadn't been for Charlotte.

Charlotte is a fantastic coach! I came to her with a time goal I wanted to reach in a marathon. Charlotte created a training plan tailored to my prior experience, as well as my availability to train. In our bi-weekly speedwork/interval sessions, Charlotte had me do a variety of workouts- sometimes quite challenging, but always fun! She also had great stories to share from her own experience as a runner and coach. Most importantly, though, she was encouraging and positive- even in weeks where I had some tough runs, or felt discouraged. During the six months in which I worked with Charlotte, I was not only able to accomplish my goal (by a solid margin), but set many new personal bests in other distances (mile, 5k, half marathon). I would recommend Charlotte to anyone- she is thoughtful, supportive, and a delight to work with!

After just a few private sessions with Coach Charlotte, I can feel improvements in my running technique. During the first session Charlotte shot a number of videos of me running. We analyzed the videos together and she was able to quickly pinpoint specific areas that require adjustments. Over the next sessions we kept working on running form and breathing techniques. Charlotte is very patient and supportive coach. I look forward to continuing working with Charlotte as I train for the 2018 NYC marathon.

Coach Charlotte is fantastic. After only one session, and after almost 50 years of running (with some history of injury), Coach Charlotte has provided me with the insight on how to improve my running form to run another 50 years and tackle that first marathon.

Charlotte is great. Finds the perfect balance between supporting you and pushing you harder. Only 3 sessions in and I can already feel a difference in my form, my running times and I am enjoying running more. Heartily recommended.

She is amazing. I have already improved how I feel.

Coach Charlotte is amazing at explaining the physiology, process, and mechanics of running. I've hated running for 25 years, but my hate is holding me back from the fun of sprint triathlons. The swim and ride are great ways to push myself and stay in shape. But I'm stymied by "the run" which I always walk, because I can't even run 3 little miles. In a year I could train for an Olympic tri, but how can I do a 10K if I can't even do 5? In one hour, Coach Charlotte video taped me, literally showed me that I can run, and explained a process to improve by treating my body the same way I do when I swim and bike. It's about becoming a better athlete over time, not how quickly I can stop doing something I hate while blasting music to distract myself from my body and my surroundings. In less than an hour I was ready to sign up for a 5K, and excited to see what I could do over the next few weeks.

Charlotte was super helpful in our first session. Was able to find small tweaks to make to my form that (so far) have made a world of difference!

Coach Charlotte is a great coach, and I highly recommend her! She provides customized work outs to meet individual goals and address individual strengths and weaknesses. She is incredibly knowledgeable and will make sure you reach your goals.

My girls love coach Charlotte! She is keeping them on target and her advice is excellent. We highly recommend her to others.

Charlotte was knowledgeable, professional, and very helpful. I needed advice on an issue I was having with my longer training runs, and she took the time to evaluate everything that could be a factor. She gave me pointers on my form and multiple suggestions about how I can stay more focused during my runs to avoid pitfalls that can happen when I get tired. I tried a few of her suggestions during my next long run and they worked! Because her advice was tailored to me specifically, it was exactly what I needed. I am really grateful she was so thorough in getting to know my running style, health, goals, and overall concerns. Thank you again!

Coach Charltotte was excellent. The wealth of experience and history in coaching and training and actually being a runner came through strongly in the session. I am a novice runner and coach charlotte explained things in a simple, clear and logical way that helped me apply the learnings and improve.
Lots of excellent advise and tips around the sport as well as the mechanics themselves which will prove invaluable I have no doubt. Very happy and highly recommend.

Hi Charlotte,

Thanks for taking the time to talk yesterday - it's a pleasure to work with you!

My session with Charlotte was very informative and great! She is a very knowledgeable, patient and thorough trainer. I learned a great deal from working with her.

My daughter thought Coach Charlotte was extremely helpful. She was very informative in advising my daughter how to adjust her running form to assist her in increasing her per mile pace. We will definitely use her again!

Charlotte is a fantastic coach! Her approach is professional, intuitive, smart and imaginative. Always prompt, easy to communicate with and flexible re sessions. Sessions with Charlotte are fun, challenging and highly engaging. We work to a carefully prepared outline based on my specific goals. Each session sees Charlotte carefully guiding me to stretch my abilities and take calculated (and always safe) risks as a runner. Her care and follow up after each session are exemplary. She is hugely experienced and perfect for seasoned athletes or for the beginner looking to build their running skills. If you're serious about developing a fun, safe, self-challenging running practice, then Charlotte will definitely help you to become the runner you'd love to be.

After just a few sessions with Coach Charlotte I feel a big improvement in my form and outlook! She is patient and encouraging. Running well is a science and she breaks it down to components and makes it easy to understand techniques for improvement. She has adapted techniques to my learning style, if one approach doesn't work, she tries others until we find what works for me. I recommend Coach Charlotte!

I had such a great experience with Coach Charlotte this past weekend. She answered my many, many questions, and had a lot of suggestions for improvement. Since our training session she has followed up with personalized adjustments to my training schedule, as well as videos of my running form. I really appreciate this personal attention. I will for sure be reaching out again for more sessions with her. Thanks!

I've never had a running coach before, and my first session with Charlotte was the ideal experience. She's super-friendly and encouraging, and immediately started making suggestions about my form that I was able to play around with, and I noticed the changes immediately! Lots to chew on for my next few runs. Highly recommended.

Charlotte taught me everything I know about good form. This knowledge has helped me to run three marathons and dozens of half marathons without injury. Charlotte is warm and compassionate with a wicked sense of humor!
I was a recreational runner who struggled with any distance over 3 or 4 miles. I was close to 30 pounds heavier and really didn't enjoy running. Charlotte has literally helped me change my life. She is more than a running coach. .
Charlotte knows how to turn her clients into successful runners. She is a master teacher and coach. I look forward to my workout with her every week and I know that each workout will be challenging, fun and unique.
