More About Coach Charles

I am a strength and conditioning coach at Bando Performance, where we train athletes of all sports, levels of play, and ages through a long-term athletic development model. Our approach centers on improving movement quality, developing speed and power, building functional strength, and creating resilient athletes who stay healthy and perform at their best.

I work with high-level teams such as the North American Hockey Academy and the Boston Junior Rangers as part of their sports performance staff. My role includes in-season training to maintain and optimize physical qualities and off-season development to increase strength, power, durability, and overall performance. I also coach athletic performance groups at Bando’s Worcester location and have assisted in running programs across multiple Bando facilities, giving me experience with a wide variety of sports and athlete profiles.

I am committed to continual learning—both as a coach and as an athlete myself. I train year-round to uphold the same standards I set for my athletes and consistently pursue new education to make the best training decisions for the populations I serve. My coaching philosophy revolves around communication, technical detail, and helping athletes gain confidence through consistent, intelligent progress.

I played four seasons of collegiate football at Bridgewater State University as a slot receiver, where I developed a deep understanding of the sport at a much higher technical and intellectual level. Competing in college accelerated my growth as an athlete — sharpening my route running, game awareness, and positional skill work — while also elevating my speed, strength, and overall athleticism through structured sports performance training. Those four years not only advanced my skill set but taught me how intentional training, movement quality, and physical preparation directly impact success on the field.

Before college, I was a multi-sport athlete at Millbury Memorial High School. I served as a senior captain in football as a running back and outside linebacker, helping lead the team to its first playoff appearance in six years. I was also captain of the outdoor track team, competing in the 4x100m, 800m, 400m hurdles, long jump, and triple jump, contributing to a conference championship. These experiences built my foundation in speed, power, and versatility.

Today, I continue to stay athletic by participating in a wide range of recreational and competitive activities. Staying active across different sports helps me apply the physical qualities developed through training, maintain athleticism year-round, and better understand the demands athletes face in dynamic environments.

Every session I run is built around long-term athletic development and a clear purpose the athlete can understand. We begin with mobility and movement preparation that directly connects to the goals of the session—improving mechanics, preparing tissues, and reinforcing high-quality patterns. I coach athletes through the why of each drill so they know how it connects to their sport and long-term progress.

From there, sessions progress into targeted athletic development based on the athlete’s needs, training age, and season. This may include mechanics, speed, change of direction, plyometrics, power, strength training, hypertrophy, or conditioning. Every component has a logical progression path so athletes build skills, physical qualities, and confidence in a safe, structured way.

My coaching style emphasizes teaching athletes how to move well and why certain training decisions are made. Understanding the purpose behind each movement helps athletes become more coachable, more confident, and more invested in their own development. Each session ends with feedback, key takeaways, and clear next steps so athletes know exactly how they’re growing within the bigger long-term plan.
